UK: Road Trip - UK

Recommended Posts

April is nice in that you won't encounter the Summer crowds, cheaper room & car rentals.

As per typical weather in UK, be prepared with light waterproof & wind proof clothing & footwear, easily available there.

It would be a waste not to swing by Lake District; Glasgow is just another big city.

Enjoy ur UK holiday & Drive Safe!

I will be driving thru the lake district...

still thinking whether to stop over for a night there

Thks

Think I will fly to Edinburgh and leave London and South of England for another trip

Good idea [thumbsup]

The further north you go the friendlier people are

and the more interesting things to see.

In Scotland even the peg of whisky you get

is a bigger amount than in England by law.

Ah...Whisky. Worth visiting Dalwhinnie Distillery in the highlands, just off A9, in the middle of sparse landscape, still covered in patches of snow in May. Met a motorcade of European who bought as much as they could carry on their bikes.

Raymondism,

Unable to give suggestions on East side of UK; only went as far as Ipswich from London long time ago.

Accommodation in Chester - check out B&Bs. Now non peak season yet; can just shop around for a resonably priced & decent one. Don't have to stay within the city itself.

Liverpool b4 the 8pm match - drive around the docks, football stadiums (check out The Kop in morning before evening crowds), lunch in China town & shop/walk in Liverpool One.

Fort William - Skye : you may wish to drive on 2 different routes to & from Skye.

This way, there's no wasted time in backtracking. There's car ferry between Mallaig & Ardvasar, from Fort Willam via A830.

The other, A87 runs from Skye thru Donnie, then A887 (very nice driving stretch) & A82 along Loch Ness to Inverness.

No need to stop over in Perth.

Inverness to Edinburgh is doable in one day, with stops along the way. The drive on A9 thru the Cairngorms is nothing spectacular compared to the eastern side of it where it's interspersed with small B roads & awesome mountainous landscape of bleak isolation.

Airport from Edinburgh city centre isn't that far, so, no worry. Alternatively, u can have a last night stay @ Queensferry which is even closer to airport.

Any suggestions for morning?

Bro Raymond, from what I know, there isn't a stadium tour on Match days, so better check this out, enjoy n have a safe trip👍

The last time I went to York, I stayed at one of the Lonely Planet recommended B&B. It has 2 parking lots for their guest. Cannot remember the name tho cos it was over 10yrs ago.

A9 is for those who like nice easy drives on relatively straight & level terrain. So, it's up to u.

Unless you, like me, prefer the off beaten route shown in my map in post 122. Gotta warn u though....... at times may thought you are lost in the myriad of twisty narrow roads but then it widens & opens to wide valleys dwarfed by looming heather covered slopes of the Cairngorms. April....early sunset, make sure u clear the Cairngorms before 4pm; else it gets eerie........

Maybe consider farmstay also, which is B&B too. Different kind of experience.

That's good then bro, cos stadium tour is a must esp for rich in tradition clubs like Pool.

Last time I was told due to security reasons they don't hv stadium tours on match days, may have changed so u lucky n may catch some players on their way in, good luck, enjoy n some pic pls if convenient, cheers!!!
