Ezfaun 3rd Gear July 2, 2014 Share July 2, 2014 (edited) You need to be careful about arf paid. ARF Paid is not equal to OMV. In the past, this is mainly affected by if it's a weekend car and the Coe is below 17k then the arf paid is reduced . Now with cevs rebates and hybrid car rebates, you need to calculate carefully what is the actual parf. Best way is just use the lta tool online to check. Please always check and do not assume ARF paid is equal to OMV. Agreed. I usually use their tools to calculate their tax structure. The only reason I put 20k omv to 20k arf is because I'm too lazy to calculate the percentages Like first 20k 100% and the next 30k 140% and the rest 180%. Cev, hybrid and off peak rebates I won't bother because I don't see myself buying those type of cars unless it's the big cc lexus hybrid Edited July 2, 2014 by Ezfaun ↡ Advertisement
Joe6057 1st Gear July 3, 2014 Share July 3, 2014 Hi Guys, I have a question. Lets say I decided to scrap my car but my workshop like to keep my engine. Can I tow my car without engine to scrapyard? Will they accept a car without engine? Thanks for reading.
GMT Clutched July 3, 2014 Share July 3, 2014 ok $ and cents it is easy to show whether justifiable based on my illustration. as for the non-pecuniary part about fuss and trouble, I believe this one is very much up to the individual and depends partly also on the car. a good car shouldn't have that many wear and tear parts to replace at the same time on the 8th to 9th year. I have known of a saab car owner who drove his car till last day before sending it to workshop to do the scrapping... then again, some car owners are quite hands-off and I wouldn't be surprised if they complain having to visit the workshop twice over the last 1.5 years of the car's life. My Lancer is 9yrs and 7mths old now, without disappoint me so far, no major replacement of part so far except replace timing belt at 90K miledges, replace tyres on 5th yrs, replace battery on every 2 yrs, regular servicing at every 10K miledges, and still in very good working condition now. Thanks for reading. my guess is cannot......the engine is like the most important part of the car. if you don't scrap it it is not equivalent to scrapping the car. Actually you can. Some guy frm the right wrong alliance scrap the car and request the scrappers to "sell" him the engine. I'm not sure but I did remove the aem ecu from my civic when I scrapped it. It was delivered there on a truck with the bbk and other expensive stuff like fuel pump, boss kit, steering wheel and bucket seats taken out. Engine swapped with another stock b16 and I sold my built $8k b18c to someone in ohio for $6k.

When the scrappers scrap, they will fully strip the car for inventory. I guess you should be able to buy the engine or any other parts from them considering that they will sell them overseas. leonchew Clutched July 3, 2014 Share July 3, 2014 I would say get a used car (probably 6 to 7 years old) and use it until next year or 2016 when the COE supply is increased, then get a new car. Not much point in getting newer resale cars.
liewryan Neutral Newbie July 4, 2014 Share July 4, 2014 Workshop quoted $3K to replace gearbox for Subaru Impreza 2007. Is it worth to do it or buy a second hand car ?

TVT Supercharged July 4, 2014 Share July 4, 2014 Workshop quoted $3K to replace gearbox for Subaru Impreza 2007. Is it worth to do it or buy a second hand car ? If you buy another second hand car, can you guarantee it won't give you any trouble? There's no right or wrong answer for such a situation. But if your current problem is just the gearbox, and nothing else, I would fix the gearbox. This is my opinion only....

Acemundo Supercharged July 4, 2014 Share July 4, 2014 Agreed, 3 more years to go. $3k over 3 years is really a no-brainer........ however, our friend should note that he will know his car better than any of us........he should know better if there are likely to have other major item giving way during the 3 years......
