Turbocharged

I will take rotor thickness measurement when it is starting to develop a lip at the circumference

that will give me a rough idea on when to replace the rotor

Post your Akebono brake pad review here! I wanna know your experience with the brakes!

abit tough to be objective here.

I just "upsized" my original brakes too. IS250 original to GS300 brakes. So the difference in braking power probably wont be accurate.

Main reason I am looking to change to akebono is due to the brake dust of original brakes. On that end, it is definitely an improvement.

Original brakes kind of "powder-coated" my rims from silver to matte grey with a couple weeks of driving. Had the akebono on rear for 2 weeks now and at the moment they definitely look to produce less dust.

its normal rear got less dust.

at least 70 % of the braking is in front

yes, comparing to previous brake pads (original lexus) rear vs rear

I haven't change the front pads, they look almost new - not sure what previous owner used tho, it is red in color, workshop also not sure which brand, just say that it's not original, they produce less dust too...

there is alot of brake now in the market focusing on less brake dust as their primary marketing.

So far your experience going to SPK and buy brake is okay? No much ding dong.

I scare to buy brake off the shelves. There was once I bought brakes from Amazon and I bring to my workshop for installation, they say wrong model cannot fit. Now the brake become my paper weight. 🤣

Ya...my understanding is they usually work proportional to each other...more dust more power..but the original lexus one, cannot tahan la!! washing 4x wheels more tiring than washing the whole car

I have yet been to SPK.

I got the akebono from the workshop actually, was quoted 100$ - charged me for less but I can't rem the exact value - which I find a bit on the high side esp for rear  (to be fair they need to earn also so I usually let them earn abit and buy some of my own)

Remember getting the original from transglober at almost half that, hence I wanted to buy from stockist myself for the front.

Previously bought some parts from transglober (toyota) and greatway (kyb), never really had issues, they usually follow chassis no. so "original" parts usually have no issue. Jasmine (left already) & Eric are usually v kind.

I have similar experience many years ago on eBay. I think their models may not be 100% similar to us. I got a pair of headlights which look similar on pic but couldnt fit at all😩 no choice, take it as a lesson learnt.

hi all, i recently changed my front brake pads from stock brake pads to brembo street brake pads for my car and notice much more brake dust than before.

Is that normal? I can accept more brake dust as long as stopping power is improved.

Another thing is earlier today i did hard braking to stop the car at traffic light and my  front wheels locked up momentarily i think, or maybe its just abs kicking in? Since changing my brake pads, I notice more brake squeal as well when braking from highway speeds, in the city its fine.

My brake calipers are still stock, only changed the front brake pads, rear brake pads are still stock. The rubber hose, rotors all still stock.

Thinking of changing the rotors to brembo rotors as well ( plain or slotted) to see if will make any further difference or change tyre to michelin pilot sport 4?

Which will improve braking performance more?

Many information on the net. Slotted/drilled rotors don't stop the car faster. (but they look cool!)

Metallic pads do but very dusty. I switched to ceramic pads for almost no dust at the expense of pure stopping power.

Better (sticker) tyres is a no brainer.

I had used Brembo stock size brake pad and agreed they are very dusty. Not just compared to original, also compared to Hawk brake pad.

To compare braking performance on same car my current car. Weakest original brake pad, Brembo is better,  Hawk brake pad the best and also less dusty.  On on the front brake.

My preference is brake efficiency plus low dust. I do not mind if it will to be a little costly. But low dust and efficiency   does not seem to go in tandem for European makes. Most European makes have very disty brake pads. My Altis pads generate very very low dust, but the E200 ones are speechless,  so much so that I have to switch to a set of very easy to wash rims. But in the end, it is the petrol kiosk guys who are washing my car.😅😅
