Damienic 5th Gear June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 (edited) Just like the thread on a Alfa with many owners the other day. I thought this was interesting as well for a rather new X3 which is a highly sought after model to have 3 owners in less than 2 yrs. Possibly a lemon ride with plenty of problems? http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=409965&DL=1000 Edited June 13, 2014 by Damienic ↡ Advertisement
W210k 1st Gear June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 I also sold my X3 (2.5L IL-6) after only 2 years, 1st owner, from brand new. Too many problems.

W210k 1st Gear June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 My X3 year of mfg was 2006, purchased in 2007. The M54 2.5L IL-6 pre-Valvetronic engine was superb - it's only saving grace for me. It was made in Austria then. The new X3 may have been improved, including the x-Drive system. I think current models are made in the USA. Don't know good or bad? I was thinking of considering the X3 for next ride. What sort of problems did you encounter with this ride?

Made in USA 'should' be better, since now almost all the BMW X models are made there (except X1 which is made in Germany).
Watwheels Supersonic June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 (edited) I think if this happens in Europe some angry dude will be smashing the car with a sledge hammer in front of the showroom to show his displeasure with the car's problem. BMW's attempt at making the SUV is not good. It's the US SUV trend that push them to make X series SUVs. BMW all along is good at making executive sedans. Bugqq Clutched June 20, 2014 Share June 20, 2014 Maybe the previous owners gave up on Performance Motor's pathetic after sale service? Read more from this thread: (relating to a less than 2 year old X3) PML's after sale service (or lack of it)
Emils 2nd Gear June 20, 2014 Share June 20, 2014 Maybe the previous owners gave up on Performance Motor's pathetic after sale service? Read more from this thread: (relating to a less than 2 year old X3) PML's after sale service (or lack of it) I have (perhaps fortunately) never had to deal directly with PML before but am equally disenchanted with the host of problems that I had faced with the car. My personally view when it comes to buying a car nowadays is that if the car is reliable, it may not matter as much the quality of the aftersales service since you will not likely need to activate it much anyway. The reverse is acceptable too, i.e. car is no reliable but aftersales service is exemplary. Worst case scenario is the car is unreliable and the aftersales service is severely lacking - I would then only have myself to blame if I choose to get a car despite the double drawbacks. Not everybody would know if a car is reliable especially a new model since theres no prior history. But poor after sales service by a particular dealership would show up in forums and such. You can't tell for sure but you can make an intelligent guess/judgement from past models produced by the car manufacturer. For example, if Lexus and BMW were to both concurrently launch an all-new new model (i.e. with no prior history), which one would you bet your money on to be more reliable? :) Edited June 20, 2014 by Emils
