nice ah....feels nice to be with such ppl. We know their children all too, and guess is cosy. Most here are Singaporeans, but we have a handful of malaysians too....minority FWs, but a few, and can tell fr their behavior, esp in lifts, where they scream like just escaped fr Zoo.

Precisely. Tolerant neighbours are already a reason to be thankful... Still want to be close enough to pass the house-keys and lend/borrow stuff?? [laugh]

I'm not surprised by the findings. But let's be realistic, there must be some common ground between your neighbour and you (e.g. perhaps same age group, same job sector, etc.) before there can be good communication.

I try to talk to the chio girl from the unit at the other end, but she still look at me like weirdo before I even open my mouth... maybe should show her this article?? [laugh]

haha try the old auntie first la...hone skills liao then attack the chio girl :D:D

but many a times its jus down to the relentless pace of our daily lives. end of work day alr shacked and jus wan to quickly rest inside house. its jus diff fr our parents gen, stil can water plants, walk corridor w kids, make small talk etc.

lucky u...

my ex neighbour was an oldie... got along fine, whenever we met would have genuine chit chat.

then he downgraded as their kids all left the nest.

sold the unit to myanmar family with 2 kids.

they upset me as they seemingly sublet to a few myanmar blue collar workers as well (no evidence though, could very well be his relatives) who keep to themselves. And they cook their food that makes the corridor smell like peninsula plaza.

My neighbours don't even exchange greetings and make small talk, as if I have diseases! <_<

My parents' neighbour also the same.

They have a red cloth to cover their unit number, and they don't want to mingle with us.

Hahahhaha

No one dares to take the first step. Most are friendly but if you don't take the first step to talk to them then they also won't talk. Usually if I chit chat with them they will reply.

Who ever takes the first steps should saying hello with a smile and greeting how are you would be good enough, cut away inquisitive conversation will be pleasant for next meeting with another warm greetings. [:)]

It all depends on individual character. but, yes, due to the long hours and stressful works, we tend to just wanna get home and rest.

My wife exchanges souvenir/food with our 2 neighbours in the same floor, even with another who lives 2 storey below.... She has very sociable character, like to greet all neighbours whenever she bumps into any of them and open our timber main door but metal gate closed of course.... :) But still there are individual who is totally have a closed mind and eyes.....;(

My opposite neighbour's 70yrs old mother and i always ware to each other, sometimes chitchat a bit. I only see the neighbor in nearby park excercise station and usually when both of us are already exhausted after jogging, so just nod at each other.
