How the fark that jaywalker couldn't see the bike coming at that speed and thinking he could be faster?? The biker was lane splitting between a large lorry or bus which blocked the jaywalker's view? Good to have 1/2 minutes early of the video scene to know what's on the left...

Like to jaywalk ?

Make sure you're faster than a bike.

Jaywalker's view was probably blocked by some large heavy vehicle on the middle lane. His last glance to his left was probably at the heavy vehicle but he didn't see or expect a bike zooming through the left lane at high speed. The overall slow traffic condition also gave the illusion that there must be no fast moving vehicles like the bike.

Whenever I drive by those bus stops along two-lane roads with stationery buses, I always slow down and expect jaywalkers to dash out between the buses.

Poor speed judgement. Probably thinks he can outrun the bike.

Bike seems to be going a tad too fast.

jaywalker didnt even stop for a moment to see oncoming traffic, just continue to walk.

This stretch of road and Geylang road is notorious for jaywalking. I would always avoid these stretches of road especially during peak hours and at night time. As long as they see traffic slowing down due to congestion or traffic lights, they'll dash through. The culture of using traffic lights is virtually non-existent there.

this area they cross from the bank and the red light area to the mrt. The other direction also like that near the geylang serai except that they ask the road users to stop to let them cross.

i'm unsure y biker's right was obscured, but i'm afraid the pedestrian may have it worse.

both have paid quite dearly for this incident. hope both can lead a more normal life after recovery.

it's human tendency to be complacent; we could only keep reminding one another thru such incidents, though it shouldn't b learning thru other's expenses.

The pedestrian seem to have impacted his head a few times, once with the rider and the ground.

Hope both recover well.

I think cuz of traffic. The other lanes all so heavy traffic. This jaywalker also assumed there wouldn't be fast vehicles in the slow lane since traffic is so heavy.

Hope can man. Moral of story, should get a larger, heavier bike.

Sucker cant estimate the speed and only solution is going forward. Many cars also like that. misjudge motorcycle speed.

normally dash out for buses is from the left. That is why i think the biker kept to the left where it is clear to the pavement to maximize view for the right.... who would expect the kuku got death wish, saw the bike and wanna overtake the bike.

One thing puzzle me !!!!  :wut:

The accident happen inside the 'yellow' box and there are no vehicles inside the box. How the rider claimed that his view was blocked by a big vehicle and even so, he had to slow down when approaching 'yellow' boxes. Furthermore he said that he was riding at 50km/h.

LTA draws 'yellow' boxes are for a reason. Most of the boxes are at a cross-junction or T-junctions. It was drawn for vehicles travelling on the straight road to give way to vehicles coming out of the junctions in even of jam or long queue of vehicle heading the same direction. So any drivers or riders when approaching this 'yellow' boxes should slow down and take extra caution.

Worst still is those drawn across 3 lanes especially those bus stops near to a cross-junctions. The 'yellow' boxes drawn are for buses to cut across to turn right at the junction. So as such, any drivers should slow down and look out for buses cutting across this 'yellow' boxes... :o

The jay walker was also wrong and can see from the video. He was walking inside the box and turn his head towards the rider. He saw the bike approaching and made a last minute dash across hoping to beat to the rider. The jay walker made a wrong judgement that he was faster then the biker....      :ouch-it-hurts:

There is a traffic light (junction between Sims Avenue & Aljunied Road ) just a few hundred feet before where the accident happened; The road looks rather quiet or "settled"  meaning that the straight line traffic (on aljunied road) has  sort of cleared and the usual traffic is always packed on the right hand side turning in or out or people going to POSB and the fruits shops or catching a taxi as the other side is a bus lane  ; I travel on this road regularly almost everyday;

Could it be that the motorcylist had "sort of" just beaten the red /amber light and was not able to slow down in time?? The govt has installed a traffic light a few hundred feet ahead a year or two back ;

this stretch of road always got things happening; and distractions here and there and lots of obstructions too everytime ; and its a very popular thouroughfare too
