Hi,

Considering that this is the Mazda thread - I don't think you'll that "balanced" review.

Btw - toyota has good promotion on their Toyota Wish and Corolla Altis. But Mazda doesn't seem to retaliate so far.

Agreed but willing to take in any considerations that I might have missed.

This happened to me 3 times before.

Has recently brought this issue up on my 5K servicing.

Was told by the lady that they would have to plug in the diagnostic tool and see what fault codes is out.

She advised me to pre-arrange and do it during my next 10K servicing; and this would take at least 1/2 day.

Eversince i would ensure that my kids keep clear of the door when it"s open and only on-board the car when the door is fully open.

However, i do not experience this occurrence again for about 2 months.

Shortly after, happened to the other door. Hasn't encounter the issue since. Seeing what u guys wrote, it's likely to happen a few more times, and randomly. Will feedback during the svc booking.

Hey same problem. On n off problem. Hard to replicate.

U will hear the door jam. Then the door lost power. Have to manually close it. Den it can be automatic again.

Lucky they nv blame my ice. Haha.

First time brought up during servicing. Cant detect problem, then nx servicing brought up again. Female service advisor say depends if have fault code.

They called n replace the door after tt. Did up within 1 day. Must be my lucky day.

Wow... I'll definitely bring it up during my next servicing and see how it goes. Seems like I'm not alone (I was thinking is it because of my ICE also. Haha...)

They replaced the door for you? I assumed they replaced the mechanism only? How long ago was that n did proble occur again after that?

I told them abt this problem on my left sliding door but they could not find anything wrong with it. So just lubricated it. Unfortunately it still happened aft that.

Hi Everyone,

I currently own a Mazda 3 and it is retiring in Apr next year so I am considering between Mazda 5 and the Kia Caren 1.7 Diesel model.

I am having a hard time deciding and I welcome your inputs. I have listed down some of the key points that I am considering. I do not need to use all 7 seats regularly and drive about 1000 km a month only.

Kia Caren:

Price diff of -$3k

Omv +$2k

Road tax +$$300 per year

Fuel savings: $100 per month

In house financing interest lower by 0.2%

Limited colors to choose from

M5:

Sliding Doors

More colors

Jap branding

Quieter engine as it is petrol

More spacious

Appreciate your weigh-ins

Thanks

Hi,

From the looks of your comparison, you already have some bias, favoring Mazda 5 more.

But, you need to be sure whether if you are really looking for a 7 seater ?

If yes, than again you should also look into other options like Toyota, Honda or the Conti models as well.

IMO, if your comparison is between Kia and Mazda, than it is a clear cut for M5, in terms of features and country of origin.

BTW, you forgot to mention that the M5 has a sunroof, which I personally like.

And you can convert the M5 to a 5 seater with some accessories.

Hope it helps.

Cheers and good luck choosing the right car for you. ^_^

Guys. When encountering sliding doors problems, is it because u r not at park mode? Or is central locked or been locked? It appeared to me, mine also facing the same issues and I tot I didn't engage parking or it was locked by passenger or myself.

I did look at Kia Caren before deciding on M5.

I find that the Kia Caren's interior is very "plastic" feel and thats why did not explore further...

Good pickup in the fact that my preference is for M5 and Kia Carens has a sunroof too but that's not a must for me.

Well Kia is 5k cheaper due to sale price and OMV diff; then thrown in the fuel savings, does sound attractive but not sure how much more the servicing of a diesel car would be compared to petrol.

A 7 seater is required as I would need to carry 6-7 pax a couple of times in a month.

I have done a test drive on Kia Carens and feels powerful despite the 1.7l Diesel engine. I will test drive the M5 and then compare the experience before making a decision....

Thanks. Similarly I only found the dashboard normal and no wow factor but like the hidden floor storage in the 2nd row.

Was choosing between Kia Carens Diesel and Mazda 5 as well. Liked the panoramic roof and the individual 2nd row seats. In the end, had to forgo the Carens due to the rattling experienced during the test drive. The fear was that if the car rattles when new, what would happen 3 years later.

I test drove both cars a couple of times. Really wanted to look past the rattling, but couldn't. Apart from that, the car does offer a lot.

I encountered it when the car was in Park mode. The door has a sensor; was thinking whether the sensor was dirty that caused the behaviour.

If you're expecting to carry 6-7 adults, comparing Kia vs M5, M5 has a better 3 row sitting position. However, M5 2nd row can only considered 2+1 seat. So, to me, it's a 6+1 seat M5 instead of 7 seaters. It very much depends on your usage.

How much is the m5 now? Almost decided on the wish currently promo at 105k for std package.

Why not take it?

I was in the same position... But decided not to go ahead because I found it a bit noisy.

Current sitting requirements include a child seat and then 5-6 adults so should be fine for both Kia Carens and M5. But good point about M5 2nd row, so I will remember to check that out when I do the test drive.

Promo price for non-guaranteed bid is currently $117,800

But not sure if SE will throw in any other discounts on top of this.

I cant be sure, but the chances of having the fault usually happen when my car is not on a level ground. Maybe on a slope?

My problem is, i have no problem opening the door automatically. However upon opening fully, u can hear there is a problem or a jam sound. And the power door loses its power. U will need to manually close it.

Price wise it makes sense, 105k vs 117k for m5. But yes, its noisy. What is holding me back is it feels like a downgrade in all aspects from my 9 year old Ody rb2... so a bit diffc to accept :p

I looked at both.

Imho , pros of Mazda 5 compared to Kia are it's more spacious in third row, sliding doors and a better drive.

No doubt Carens is the more modern car. I liked the features of it a lot more. But the third row space is really small. To me what killed it for me is that for the diesel version, it comes with dual clutch gearbox.

Good points and I think I can really decide only when j test drive the M5 to feel the difference between the 2.
