Mazda 5 - requesting owners feedback

Let me share my view, hopefully, other members chip in later.

I was driving Mitsubishi Lancer GLX for 7+ yrs. It has also 2 airbags only.

To me, of course, I would prefer it to have 6 airbags.

However, comparing some other factors, e.g. noise, comfort level, built quality, price...etc..

I opted for M5. I would say, it's a 'overall package' that wins me over. of course, each has his/her own priority.

I believe the 3 common reasons most people turn away from M5:

     1) fuel consumption

     2) 6+1 seaters, instead of 7

     3) 2 airbags

Yes, I share the same factors as you also. Maybe I add some more reasons most people don't choose M5:

4) Outdated exterior and interior design

5) No smart entry and push start button

But to me, the pros outweighed the cons, and most importantly it's within my budget.

Thanks for the sharing bros. I have seen similar points from other posts. Here is my view:

1) fuel consumption                                   ==> Is the FC really very bad? My current car is 12km/l. Each month I travel around 1K. Assume the FC is 10km/L, means I need to spend extra 200L fuel, or $450 a year, seems OK to me.
2) 6+1 seaters, instead of 7                       ==> not an issue to me, on weekdays I'm the only one driving. Weekends I will fetch wife and 2 kids, sometimes with my parents 6 seats just nice for me.
3) 2 airbags                                                ==> that's the real concern to me.
4) Outdated exterior and interior design    ==> agree but I can live with it.
5) No smart entry and push start button    ==> not a concern, my current car doesn't have either so I'm used to it.

Other people also feedback that there are less active safety features like collision detection and prevention. There are 3rd party products which can help. One product my company using now is MobileEye (not advertising as we are not selling it). Tried and quite impressive with it. Price is around $600.

I agreed too with all the points. I would like to add on that the drive of M5 is AWESOME! at least I enjoy the drive for myself....

Collision detection may be more of an annoyance rather than feature. That's what I gathered over some of the Vezel drivers I've come across over the web and colleagues.

Hey catanony, just wanted to share that the lack of airbags was also very concerning for me when I was doing my research. FC was also a big factor for me, and I was seriously considering the Citroen Grand Picasso diesel model as a result. My second choice was the Kia Carens, which is in my opinion a really good car, but still a Korean made car nonetheless.

In the end, what won me over was the M5's price, driving performance and interior spaciousness. It also has decent FC (ard 10km/L), a good Pioneer HU sound system and of course, sliding doors!

There are of course some other cons like no electric seats, cruise control, 3rd row aircon ducts, LED lights...but at the end of the day if you like the car, you will learn to live without these "luxurious gadgets" as my SE put it. Apparently this is how they can sell it at this price and still make a profit.  [thumbsup]

I just ordered M5 over the weekend. My SE gave me open cat straight away, although i opted for 6 bids non-guarantee. She told me all colors have stocks and ready for collection by next 2 weeks. Wonder why ur SE need to bid the coe few rounds for u.

Hey superyes, congrats on your new ride! I also chose the Titanium initially, but in the end changed my mind and went with Pearl White instead. Wah your SE so garang, can offer you open cat up front and commit to 2-weeks delivery! Can share her name so that others can also benefit? Haha! Do you mind also sharing what was your price and package?

Interesting to note that. I also placed booking for a Titanium Flash Mica 2 weekend back, before the current coe exercise. I was put on the 6 bids non-guarantee package then but managed to secure the coe on the very first bid. However the SE informed me the car is not in Singapore yet and the soonest it will be ready for collection will be in the last week of Nov.

Glad to know that you were given an open cat coe on the spot and the car is waiting for you now =)

Just curious about the queuing system adopted by Eurokars....

Your SE might be trying to include some buffer in case any delay in the shipment (or maybe she just works slowly...*chuckles*). I managed to get my car earlier than the forecasted date, so you might have some hope of collecting yours in two weeks time like superyes...good luck!  [thumbsup]

Open Cat COE is what the company has with them already. It's whether which car and for which customer they want to use it on. As long as they have the car in stock, they can choose to use the Open Cat COE on the car. So delivery within 2 weeks is not considered fast. They can even do it within a week if they want.

No wonder. Was told oct 2015 Coe bid was unsuccessful. Few days later received call to ask me top up 1k to get the car. I think it is a matter who is paying the Coe more or less and whether u willing to wait for nov/dec to track Coe price

Was considering between carens and Mazda 5. Caren has lower profit margin compared to Mazda. U can check out these prices. Carens has also better technology and is a newer model. Reason why I chose Mazda is a Japanese brand. Although older model but been on road for a while. Had not good experience with Korean made items.

My only concern with Mazda is it will no longer be in production from 2016. So wonder what is the impact and issues with maintenance and repair. Also whether are there oem parts for repair like Toyota and Honda. originals parts are quite expensive.

Transport is means to get one point to another. It's still a necessity for work and family despite what gahmen saying. Hoping to keep cost down.

Yes, I have same experience, the SE told me go for 6 bids non guarantee n said they have open cat as well ...not to worry ...then until 4 bids also dont have ....then call me to ask me to top 4 K for guarantee bids ...then get it next month. ...I really feel cheated by these Mazda SE .... Maybe other car dealer also like that ?

Mazda car service also now take longer to book a slot and the price also sky rocket high ....i will try to avoid if possible,

Actually i dont think need to worry too much on repair and maintenance , there are alot of common part in Mazda 3, the usual wear and tear replacement part still easy to get in my opinion for all Japanese car if compare to Euro car ...

I noticed the default headlight assembly that came with car is halogen bulb. Any bros or sis here managed to change it to HID for the added spread and brightness for driving at night? Please share where to get it done and the damages. Thanks.

I believe you know aftermarket HID is illegal right?

I wasn't aware of that as i see most of the new car come equipped with either HID or LED. I thought it was a matter or opting it inside the package with the AD or having it fitted at outside workshop if the AD do not provide the option.

I was just informed by my SE that my car will be ready for collection in 2 weeks time. May i know what other things have your done to your car after collection?

My own preference, the halogen headlight looks kinda bad. Even the same design mazda 3 already using bi-xenon already. I also thinking of swapping to hid :) looks better lol. But i dont choose those intensity to blind others

Wonder if it will void certain part of warranty covered by Trans Eurokars if we have others to be fitted at outside workshop?

If nothing happens, they also wun say. But anything happens, they also anyhow link.

I alr got my sound system installed back after 1 week collection. When i go do my 1k service, they alr say, wow u fix ur own speakers already. To me my concern is more for the engine n gearbox.
