1. Engine mounts : EK : $700, WS : $350 every 1.5 years.

2. Gearbox : EK : $14K, WS : Recond unit $4.5K

3. Fuel pump : EK $1.2K

4. Alternator : EK : $700, WS : Recond unit $250

5. Suspension colis : EK $300 each

It does sound like the gearbox is a problem. Just wondering - is this something which an AA inspection should be able to pick up? The rest I can stomach I guess.

Thanks again :)

Appreciate the tip on shortlisting. The mileage and accident record sometimes can be fudged right? But I guess it's a good starting point.  :a-good:

Not sure... my annual inspections did not catch the problem.  If you are driving the car, you will know because the gear keep slipping, but by then, it would be the equivalent of a stage 3 cancer.

No, AA inspection can't pick up GB problem... anyway GB doesn't really give any tell tale signs untill it is almost about to die. Its very hard to detect. During test drive make sure you travel at different speed to go thru all gears including reverse. Watch out for jerking or abnormal gear change or delayed engagement from N to D or N to R.

Thanks Madtari and Limwsv. Very helpful tips.. [drivingcar]  I will definitely keep this in mind when going to take a look.

Quite keen on the Mazda 5 since it seems bigger than the Wish/Stream especially if normal 5-seaters dont work for my two child seat+maid requirement..

My wife and I chose Mazda 5 over Wish as well for various reasons such as

- third row more spacious

- rear aircon

- sliding doors

- middle seat in 2nd row can keep, providing easier access to 3rd row

- PRICE! Mazda 5 cheaper than Wish

Collecting my Mazda 5 in 2 weeks time. Hehe.

Luck plays a more important role as compared to reputable used car dealer for a 8-9 years old car.

You buy such a car. Any replacement tt cost more than 1k to repair, i think you can scrap it already? Dont really make sense to repair a dying car. Cos you wun know whats next in next 2 months. But if can live with the problem n car still can drive. Then tongggg

Basically you know the car dealer, but the car dealer was not the one driving the car. You don't know how the previous owner drives and maintains the car. So yes, agree that luck is more in play.

After driving for just a day, I can feel that the car's unsprung mass has been reduced noticeably. Pick up and braking has improved, and so has cornering stability due to the wider tyres (215/45/17). One point to note, these CSC5 tyres seem to generate slightly more noise than the Toyo ones, which is not good. Let me know what you guys think about the mod, any views are welcome!

Great set of wheels and Stamford's price is reasonable. CSC5 is quite a good set of tyres. Many good reviews on it all over the web.

Hey hitlerson21, thanks for your views! Well, I finally decided to take the plunge and settled on those SSW rims, here are some pics to share! Personally I'm quite pleased with the overall result, although this is just the first step.

Nice mod.... I have no budget for that... will stick to stock rim....

And with the 3rd row up, still can squeeze in a lightweight stroller in the boot. The ability to create a walkway in the middle is also a clever design. Basically you have many possibilities to play around with the seats in different situations.

I am getting my M5 soon. I see some owners trade in their HU set for a higher model. Is the supplied model of low grade. Can the supplied one play videos (mpeg or mkv media files) thru USB as I hardly play DVDs anymore.

Yup I was driving a Latio for  9.5 years, M5 is different, I require an MPV - need space for the 3 kids ... New Sylphy looks abit like face lifted Latio , miss the Elecantra seats, foot parking brakes and keyless drive !!!

Tong Lee Wee Auto  was the installer -they are contractor to install the pioneer Unit on M5... not the cheapest but I think the only one that take your current unit for an upgrade... You can upgrade to other pioneer unit or other make. I upgraded to AVH-X5750BT.

M5 whine abit during starts up .... not sure it is me or the car.. will check with the mechanic during 5k servicing.

May I know how much you pay for the difference to trade in to AVH-X5750BT.

The supplied one will be X2750BT. It should meet your requirements... :)

Hi, Mazda 5 owners,.

I just booked last week for Mazda 5 at Leng kee with Guarantee COE (open category)

I use S$1k petrol to offset S$1k top for 2 bid guarantee.

The final price at S$119,888 and offer free solar film, 3 years free servicing + Pioneer Car audio/GPS / front -back camera

This is same as per SC mention at Expo . Overtrade for my old car is paper value +S$1k.

I want to know whether SC is honest or not.

I heard if you ask your friend to buy, there is $200 voucher referral scheme .

Is this correct or you guys know better offer.?

Hi, may i know ur deal coming with 5 yr warranty n roof mount DvD?

I am keen to upgrade to AVH-5750BT (or avh- 8750bt) after collecting car end of Nov. May go TLW to upgrade, avoid warranty issue.
