i think there is a replacement for carnival. in US it's called sedona or something. just appeared in ny motor show in apr, reportedly launching in year-end.

also curious to see if it will reach singapore early, in which case maybe worth considering too.

not sure abt hyundai. the starex has been used as mpv in many countries but not here. i drove it (called iMax) in Australia last year. very spacious, but not v powerful.

Good for your. Wish is definitely a safest bet. However, having driven wish for years, I just cant bring myself to face the dashboard again. It is dam plastic and old fashion and make me feel like taxi driver at the instant sight.

so, after wish, what next for you?

Hi all MPV guru,

I currently driving a Verna and looking to upgrade my ride to MPV due to expansion of family member.

Am considering Hyundai Trajet and Kia Caren. Could any kind soul be able to advise on the maintenance and also fuel comsumption?

As I do not wish to 'spend' so much on Japanese brand MPV, therefore I looking budget MPV like the korean.

Thank in advance!

You r like me.I also change from verna to carens.

From 0 to 100k mileage till today, still have not change anything yet except one headlight bulb & brakepad.(oil change servicing excluded)

Low on maintence,FC 9 to 9.5km/l.Cabin is quiet which i like but boot space is basically nothing with 3-row up.But can put a cargo net to overcome it so things dont drop when boot open.

Just go for it.

I love this thread!

I am driving a Toyota Wish 2005 Apr, it's going to scrap soon... another 8 months time.

I am also looking for a small size MPV for replacement.

Been through few showrooms yesterday and spotted 2 cars: Toyota Wish and Mazda 5.

Thinking of getting M5 as it has promotion till 31-Jul... but not sure if it is the right time to place my order now considering the fluctuation trend of the COE in this coming 8 months time...

I also checked through the used car ads, looks like the annual depreciation has not much different from new car... no point considering

Any advise ?

I would say either go for a new car or renew your COE. No point getting used as the depreciation is only slightly lower than a new car and you may need some repairs depending on the condition of the car.

I got my wish 9 mth after you, so have 9 more mth than you to wait… hopefully COE will drop further during this time.

It's atrocious that used cars are being sold at same depreciation as new cars… If 5-yr used car COE was only $30K, then they are now sold at $60K COE range, resulting in the depreciation of the COE component as being $6K per year instead of $3K/yr...

Back to your car choice: i'm considering getting a full-sized MPV next as my kids are growing up to be quite tall. At this rate, they might not fit well into a wish (or M5 which i think is less spacious)...

Do you not have the same consideration since you got the Wish 9 yr ago?

The used car dealer are charging high price now because to buy a second hand car , the cash upfront is not so much as compared to new cars.

Anyway finally got my Estima last Saturday .

These days many people with expiring coe switching to 7-8year old cars to 'tong' for a while hoping that coe will drop in the next 2 years. That's also why used car are still being sold at a inflated price...

Never liked used car dealers, but i guess that's part of the whole industry practice so should not fault them… They buy or take in cars from owners at low price, say this say that… then dare to sell at high price as they know there is demand.

If/When the day comes when COE drops till rock-bottom again, these used car dealers will again go and drive taxis...

Is yours a new Estima? Who did you get it from and how much?

Just saw from Ody forum got comment that ride comfort for 3rd row in both Ody and Estima are no good… Is it true?

Oh no! seems like there is no way to save money huh?!

As my COE will expire on Apr-15, --- 8 more months, do you think it is time to go for a new car or hold on for few more months till Nov or Dec period?

I hope to hear various views and opinions from you guys!

I think the COE will fluctuate around the current level till the end of the year. Difference might not be much as the demand is simply way above any small increase in supply.

For those still hunting, I am now half minds whether to get mpv or suv. Smitten with the X trail. And though many say not good...Citroen Grand Picasso is also nice. But I may end up with a Sorento or Previa (PI Estima).

Can't decide...

if ure gona get mpv, get 1 with sliding doors as it makes a huge difference in carparks.

SUV boot load area is higher so if always transport heavy stuff no brainer MPV is better.

what type of car are you driving now?

If budget is not a constraint, i would go for a 7 seater SUV for the new experience and height.

i am currently a mid-size mpv driver and is looking to change as well. it is always a struggle btw the heart and brain. Brain tells me to buy what is practical and value for $ - not just the initial payment but also the daily running of the car. Heart tells me to try something new and enjoy the experience!

In the end, i think my brain will win.

Streamium70, you hit the nail on the head. Head vd heart.

I currently drive a sedan. With growing kids and aging parents, I now need a 7- seater. Hard to decide on mpv or suv because both have pros and cons.

Most practical would be a mpv but my heart says 7 seater suv is a good compromise. Costs is definitely a key consideration. We all know that a vehicle is a liability, not an asset.

I have slightly more than a year more for my current ride's Coe. Hope coe softens further so I can get my 'compromise' :). If not, will be mid size mpv. Wish,Orlando, mazda 5 or PI honda models.
