I see that Elgrand, VF and Alphard belongs to big size MPV

Ody, Estima, Previa belongs to full size MPV

Wish, Stream etc.. mid size MPV

Hard to put Ody in big size MPV range as it is not really that big leh

Good point, totally agree ,just see what me and family needs. Thanks

Prices drops for Toyota Avanza (Cat A) and Honda Mobilio (Cat A), but not much for Chevrolet Orlando (Cat B).

Toyota Avanza $120k, 5 years free servicing, $500 petrol voucher, OMV $15K, CEVS $0

Honda Mobilio (Lux model) $122k, 3 years free servicing, OMV $19K, CEVS $5K

Chevrolet Orlando, $116k, No free servicing, no free road tax, no hamper, OMV $15K, CEVS $0

All 5 years Warranty.

If we minus the car prices from freebies

Toyota Avanza $120000 - $3365 - $500*0.85 = $116k

Honda Mobilio $122,000 - $2076 = $120k

Chevrolet Orlando = $116k

If we add in the service cost (up to 5 years) to the car price, and consider voucher.

Toyota Avanza $120000 - $500*0.85 = $119,575k ~~ $120k

Honda Mobilio $122,000 + $1353 (yr 4 & 5 svc) = $123353k ~~ $123k

Chevrolet Orlando = $116k + $2580 (5yrs svc) = $118580 ~~ $119k

If you drive them until COE expires, all should get back about the same PARF.

Comparisons:

1. Avanza cost the same as Orlando while Mobilio is $4K more expensive.

2. Orlando is more powerful with 13bhp, followed by mobilio (118bhp), then Avanza (99bhp).

3. Orlando has better interior and I find it look better too.

4. Orlando may not last 10 years because the 1,4T engine's reliability is not proven yet.

I may go for Orlando since it is cheaper, more powerful, nicer but not so reliable.

If the AD can tune the Orlando to lower the HP to Cat A, I think it will sell more of it.

It 1.4T but CatB Coe due to HP, if can fall under CatA the price will be lower .. it will suit more ppl under tight budget but need weekend 6-7 seater like me.

As u mention Orlando reliability is unknown at this point. But w lower selling price compare to other CAT A MPV, i'm sure it can win some sale ... I for 1 will chose Orlando base on the price saving to counter the unknown reliability :-)

Orlando has a horse power of 138bph, which is the same as Honda Stream, and is close to Wish (141bph). So, it is as powerful as 1.8L cars. Cruze and Captiva also have the same engine as Orlando, and are all Cat B. The same engine is also used in Opel.

For the Orlando, it doesn't need to be rev as hard i.e. to step as hard on the accelerator to achieve its best pulling power (torque). It should translate to a better acceleration vs the Wish.

On the flip side looking at Wish, it's best torque is 173Nm which is also lower than Orlando's. That means even when you rev the Wish to a high of 5000rpm, it still doesn't pull as hard as Orlando.

So looking at pulling power, Orlando wins.

In real life which is faster for that initial few hundred meters depends on the weight of the car and its gear ratios too.

Hope this helps.

Have to test drive to feel for yourself.

Orlando is a heavier car and I can feel some lag between stepping on the accelerator and the car moving off.

noted..

Based on spec, orlando is 1.5Ton, wish 1.1Ton...

So orlando, more power t pull heavier car too...

To be more exact, Orlando is 1,650kg while Wish is 1,370kg. Why is Orlando 280kg heavier? Safer?

No need to second guess. I tested both Orlando and wish before.

Orlando power pulls straight off the line. Initially when i test drove the 'new' wish, i was thinking, wow... this mpv feels light on the throttle. I was very impressed.... till i test drove the 1.4 Chevys turbo range! lol... its really nice to pull at 200nm.... not too raw... just nice....

The purpose of buying a MPV is to seat at least 6 comfortably. So third row space should be more important than acceleration.

I agree. Which is why for myself I bought the Honda Mobilio.

It should be one of the slowest MPV out there. :-)

Acceleration should only be affected if it is fully loaded else should not be that bad :)

I don't think anyone should be putting 'acceleration' as one of their criteria when getting any MPV.

For me, the 3rd row is the deciding factor.

Same for me. And other than being spacious (enough), I also need the flexibility of 3rd row being split c.f. to a full bench - which leaves me with very limited choices.

If you're like me, then the only options would be:

- estima

- previa

- alphard

- vellfire

- elgrand

- sharan

- triplets (Noah, Voxy, Esquire)

Given the price of cars now, likely will be considering estima and the triplets only...
