I can say that I'm now suffering from the 5 yr itch... Thinking of switching back from conti to Jap to avoid the outlay for downtime. But the stupiak coe is 'curing' me of this ailment.

 

Went to test Biente yesterday. The drive was surprising adequate for such a large car. 6 speed gear box is quite responsive during acceleration. Very airy feel in the cabin due to the high roof.

 

However, the console is very dated with an aftermarket Alphine HU with Navi sticking out like a sore thumb!! The off white leather is also a bummer since I have 3 dirty monsters!! These with the price of $148K is keeping my money safe for now barring any 'mishaps'.

They had a model on display and many enquiries; the display unit had 2 dvd players with screen on the rear of the front seats... r they part of your package too?

For MPV, it depends on who will be sitting on the third row and how often..

 

I am currently driving the Honda stream... the third row are good & spacious for my kids for now.. but put anyone who is above 1.7 m tall in the third row; I dun think tat person will want to be there for a long journey.. within Spore maybe still OK. Of cos how "Spacious" the third row is will depend on the positioning of the 2nd row. I only sat on third row while cleaning my car interior.. All I can say,, it is better for kids or adult below 1.7 m tall.

 

I had also sat on the third row of Wish during lunch out with colleagues, again the same explanation applied.. depends on the position of the 2nd row..

 

I had only sat on the previous Mazda 5 third row..but was years ago and it was a short ride.. so cant remember how comfortable or uncomfortable it was...

 

Cars that I had found the third row was comfortable for adults were the previous Honda Ody and the good old Toyota Picnic.

 

As for all the current MPV, forget about those conti like Renault, Peugeot 5008, Citroren Grand Picasso, Opel Zafira and VW touran, the rear seats are like seating on the floor. This is based on my "butt" test on show room model.. yet to try the ford s-max.. but someone had mentioned it is also meant for kids too.

 

I intend to get a replacement for my 6 yrs old Stream..

 

I had yet to try the Mazda 5... but find the audio console very very outdated.. some say the third row is cramp too.. have to do a "butt" test to see how bad it is..

the much talked abt Biante,,,hmmm.. guess if we want space in the car, very difficult to run away from a "boxy"design.. but I find the Biante 's steering wheel design quite "boring" and also lack of a moon/sun roof....

 

of cos if money is not the issue, Honda oddy, Ford Galaxy or VW Sharan will be in the list.. but paying 50% downpayment... which is probably in the region of 70k to 90k in CASH... a sum which is too big for a peasant like me....

 

just my 2cts worth of contribution on a cool Friday morning.

 

FYI , The Galaxy and the Biante is almost the same price . I have seen both although have not test drive the Galaxy .

I am now moving away from Wish and may seriously consider the above 2? Guys what are your opinion about Ford brand?

MPVs without sliding doors can be quite a pain.

The Galaxy and S max has similar engines. Galaxy is slightly more ex. If you need the space, go for Galaxy. If you want the torque and more stylish exterior, go for S max. I test drove S max but didn't like the interior... feels cramped.

 

Biante got lots of space, which offsets the rather ugly boxy look. So really a matter of preference.

 

My key considerations are 1. Costs...not too ex 2. Driveability... not a sports car, but still fun to drive 3. Space for 7 occasionally, so no need full size MPV....unless COE crash : ) and lastly 4. Not too expensive in terms of maintenance and fuel costs

Think Biante is quite practical and reasonable price as compare to other mid size MPV . Me too I want a car to give me a peace of mind . Having said that , may take a look at Toyota Noah with PI . How ironic lol !

Frankly, i love Trajet. and am thinking of getting one since last year. However, wifey totally don't like the gear changing stick and the fc.

but in terms of the comfort level, ie a full grown adult can sit comfortably in the last row, regardless of the position of the 2nd row and still have enough cargo space at the back :)

bro, in my opinion, biante is no way comparable to Trajet.

Firstly, the 2nd and 3rd row is not as wide to accomodate 3 full grown adult like trajet. and then if wanna sit comfortably in the 3 row, can say there is no cargo space at the back.

Maybe the fc for biante is better than trajet and in terms of road tax also cheaper. response of biante is also better.

but all of the above is just my opinion.

I was bored today and went to Ubi to look see. Went to see the Toyota Noah brand new and it looked good. Chanced upon the later version of the Chrysler Grand Voyager. Damn good space etc. As for maintenance and FC, it is a question mark. Am driving an Edix now as a family car, FC aint great either.

Kia has come a long way. The new Carens look good. If they priced it at 110K with the current COE, it will be worth it.

Didnt know that! thanks for the info. I previously considered mpv but in the end give up coz I find the driver seat quite uncomfortable and small.

FYI. My current family car is a 2006 wish. Wish is very reliable for me and I do not have any problem throughout except for wear and tear parts. However, I am really sick with the tacky dashboard and outlook thus I booked a Renault grand scenic for replacement. I was considering between mazda 5 and scenic but eventually pen down on a scenic as I have a very good deal of freebie. for those mid size mpv, the prices are almost the same, only a few k different. scenic gave me a more secure feeling as it feels dam solid although resale value can be bad but who cares if I am driving till coe expire. maintenance wise I am given a 5yrs warranty and 5yrs servicing and many other things. it is worth considering. road tax for 1.5 diesel is the same as 2.0 petrol.

 

i'm driving 06 wish too.

 

Am also looking for replacement, but just impossible to consider Grand Scenic as a viable replacement, as in terms of space i would say it's 2 steps down c.f. Wish leh...

 

But yes, in terms of gadgets, technology, it's prob 2 steps up... Then again, with kids growing up, i need more space rather than these 'bells and whistles'...

The Chrysler Grand Voyager? My dad's friend is driving one. 3.3L V6 LoL...Imagine the road tax. For a sportscar I think ppl dun mind but for a MPV....

FC is quite high and its acceleration is pretty slow. Needless to say it's a damn heavy car for that extra space.

I wonder if he's still driving one.
