Gillette Fusion cartridges are damn expensive, 1 cartridge can only last 1 week for me. I shave everyday. Thanks for sharing TS but will not try as I am using safety razor. I only shave once a week so I'm kind of bushy by Friday. ↡ Advertisement

Instructables points us to a video demonstration showing how to extend their utility with a pair of blue jeans. The DIYer in the video says he's kept the same disposable razor sharp for six months. How? By taking a pair of jeans and running the razor up and down 10 to 20 times in one direction along the entire length of the jeans and then again in the opposite direction. Apparently "the threads of the jeans run in a diagonal so switching directions allows for [a] balanced approach to fine tuning the blade's edge." Check out the above video to see the tip in action. Thanks for posting. After watching the clip, just recalled the same approach during my younger days when my regular barber would also run his blade along a long strap of leather. Guess that was the intent.
Myxilplix Turbocharged May 21, 2014 Share May 21, 2014 I still use the plain old Mach 3 blades. All the fancy 4/5-bladed cartridges just tend to get clogged because I'm a hairy bastich who doesn't shave daily.
Ahgong Supercharged May 21, 2014 Share May 21, 2014 this method is similar to those old barber shop that used fixed blades. they used to rub their blades against a strip of leather.

In the end threw it all away. But the blades are damn cheap, 1 pack only $1 IIRC

Cuts and burns are 1 thing, but the time taken also longer. Not to mention that there is certain technique. Every morning I shave before gg to work, and it's alrdy quite rush for me. I only have 1-2 mins to shave, so either use electric or gillette. I think I will try this method by TS to save some $. Anyway I have plenty unused jeans at home.
