Maroon5 5th Gear May 19, 2014 Share May 19, 2014 Roman Abramovich doesn't have hundreds of billions. In fact his wealth has dropped greatly in the last 4-5 yrs. His wealth is estimated at just about US$10billion or so if I din rem wrongly from recent rankings. He is not even among the top 20 richest person on the planet now. Peter Lim has about US$2Billion from the latest rankings. he tried to buy Liverpool some years back but they rejected him, preferring the American offer. i thk they doubted his offer as i thk he was act a man u fan???? rem reading some reports abt this during tat period.... Spring Moderator May 19, 2014 Share May 19, 2014 Can send our S-league players there for training? Or can we do exchange programme, swop their players for ours ?! Frankly speaking, I don't feel proud leh... whats there to proud at? He owns the club, not me, not normal singaporeans. Will the future earnings from Valencia help our local citizens? Don't think so, as profits will go into his pocket, and not mine. Anyway, he is a astute businessman, and in business world, its profits that matter to him. Would rather he uses $720million to help our local soccer, improve our football, and target for WC in 2022. I think to be fair, whilst I agree with you that it doesn't benefit us directly; it is an achievement for an Asian to be able to own a top European club. What I'm interested to know is what is Peter's objective cos IMO there are 2 kinds of owners: 1) The fan type ie just want to own the club for the thrill or owning, doesn't care if he overspends and it helps that owning a FC is considered a prize catch! Eg Roman@Che and Sheukh@City 2) The business type. Takes ownership as an investment, may even choose to strip the club of its assets and dosesn't think tweice about mortgaging the club! Eg Glazers/United and Gilette and Hicks/Pool previously Peter has a track record of making a profit in his investments so he may ne type 2 bit too early to tell. We shall see!

U r right that Roman's wealth has come down but from a football fan perspective, u just can't help admiring his generosity unlike some other owners. That said this era of FFP has put paid to this kind of spending!!

Spring Moderator May 19, 2014 Share May 19, 2014 I don't understand. There are many billionaires in this world. Peter Lim might just be one of the "poorest" Having seen and heard his investments, I don't think they made much sense. E.g. McLaren, motor circuit in jb. Thomson medical. Etc. Is he just trying to park his funds elsewhere for some special reason? Hmmm Peter Lim has a reputation of "every he touches turns to gold". I don't know about the parking of funds/special reasons etc. but I do know that I won't be questioning his investments etc cos he gets it right more often than not!!
Baal Supersonic May 19, 2014 Share May 19, 2014 perhaps, his next move is to buy a F1 or at least a GP2 team since he is building a racetrack in JB [sly] Hope there would be some Off peak hours to allow local >400cc bikes to run as well. I may then contemplate getting a class 2 bike again.

Spain is a very nice country and being a owner of their most famous sports, he get to see more cities by travelling with the club he owned .... Ktglfc Hypersonic May 19, 2014 Share May 19, 2014 Peter lim bought his club faster than PAP realizing the goal 2010... Front the start, we are already unable to achieve this WC2010, due to lack of resources, be it $ and pitches and trainings. Of course, $ is the most important. Garmen won't part away the money to achieve this, cos they need to use ours cpf for investment to give us 4% dividends. So in the end, the dream will always remain a dream that never materialise. Guess PL wasn't that rich then, if not, could sponsor our team But like what some forumers said, he, as a businessman, won't invest in something that won't earn back rewards. So, I guess Valencia is the only choice for him. Moving forward, really hope he can contribute back to our soccer growth, by arranging some of our players to understudy in Valencia. Don't expect them to play in la- Liga league, but at least get some experience to train with them :)

Spring Moderator May 19, 2014 Share May 19, 2014 hopefully, He won't be another Vincent Tan Peter should learn the lessons from other owners of what went wrong, so if he repeats them, he only has himself to blame! European clubs are heavy on tradition and fan support. Dont be like the Egyptian guy at Hull trying to change their name or like Vincent who changed the colours of Cardiff. He must get the fans onside cos otherwise it will be an uphill battle for him. I wish him Good Luck n success!!
Damienic 5th Gear May 19, 2014 Share May 19, 2014 (edited) i thk they doubted his offer as i thk he was act a man u fan???? rem reading some reports abt this during tat period.... he owned some Man U cafes in overseas. it was purely a business venture. if I have a money and I'm a Chelsea fan but someone invited me to be a partner to own a chain of Man U cafes in overseas, I would still have invested the money. Anything related to Man U makes money and I certainly won't say no to more money even though I'm a Chelsea fan. And by doing that (owning Man U cafes) won't make me less of a chelsea fan. Sosaria Twincharged May 19, 2014 Share May 19, 2014 hopefully, He won't be another Vincent Tan Heh heh... so you read about that too? I thought not many people were aware as Cardiff is just a relatively new and minor BPL club, and not much following here. He tried to change the jersey colour (blue to red), club name (bluebird to dragon), replaced the manager, etc. Despite the criticisms coming from the fans, I felt that some of it was - though the fans'd never admit it - bigoted and stereotyped, more so when wales is a bit of a backwater place, and the new owner is asian. Nevertheless, things seem to have settled down now with solskjaer running the show (or is he really?) and I haven't checked whether the team survived the cut this round? ↡ Advertisement
