  1. 1. In the large MPV category, which do you think is a better buy? The Nissan Elgrand or the Toyota Alphard?

    • Nissan Elgrand ($188,800 as of 14th May)
      51
    • Toyota Alphard ($218,888 as of 14th May)
      25

I'll pass on both.

If need to settle for Jap make, I'll go with Estima/Previa (1st choice) or Honda which should be priced about the same as the Nissan or even lower.

If don't mind Conti, I'll go with Sharan which you might be able to get slightly below 200k but packed with electronic features and safety ones too. The drive is amongst one of the best for all MPVs considering it is only 2000cc but turbo charged - lower road tax, goof torque and delivery. However, some folks are pretty concern with the DSG and reliability of VW brand....

Good luck with your search!

I think Honda ODC is the best. If not wrong, cheapest, most fuel efficient with highest speed & latest technology and most up to date features. It is also the newest model. Drivability is good.

I would go for Elgrand > Ody > Alphard

Elgrand cheap but look best among three and on par with alphard

Ody slightly ex than Elgrand but better resale value but lack of luxury feel (more sporty)

Alphard luxury, reliable but the price turn me off. Design also the lousiest

ODC not bad. Got park assist but no auto tailgate.

but the one thing i don't like is the inflexibility of the 3rd row seat. It is not split and the whole bench will be folded together, or seated up together. If I need to fetch 6 persons and have some luggages, then it will be a problem... Estima on the other hand allows one side of the 3rd row seat to be up while the other side is folded down, so gives more flexibility when the need arises...

Go test drive both to see which handles and performs better.

On paper they are pretty similar. So it's down to the test drive.

yar agree. best to test drive. depends on feel also, at times.

I have sat in the Alphard during trips to Jakarta. Their Silverbird taxi.

As a passenger, its like travelling in 1st class. Super comfy reclining seats with own climate control air-con and individual TV screen. Shiok ar!

Very good point.

wondering too why had such expensive option (autopark) when there are no

1) one touch power window up down (only available for driver). Same with Elgrand.

2) no dvd player

3) no factory GPS

Also agree abt the 3rd row seats - can cannot recline further down (cannot lie down unlike estima 3rd row).

Otherwise ody headlight and rear lights v nice.

Note:

Auto tailgate - Borneo motors top end alphard (7 seater with moonroof) do not have this feature too...Latest Previa now has this, however Previa rear seats still not able to fold flat into the boot unlike Estima model.

True, if not mistaken, that time Estima cost around 90K only and can get altis for less than 50K.

Base Alphard/VF not that popular 5 yrs ago but still relatively cheap at around 120K.

I wish the good old days return.

Now considering Honda Odyssey 2006/ 2007 depreciation about $12k to $14k. Honda Stream also about $12k. Might as well buy Odyssey right? Any other better recommendation?
