Singaporeans Must be the Only Ones who think....

That a $60,000 COE is cheap and starts buying cars now that the B & B cars are around the $100,000 mark

Seems like the ADs are expecting crowds to return to the showrooms this weekend.

Insane?

100K for a B&B car....need to overcome alot of psychological and emotional barriers to convince oneself to get one lol.

Though still expensive, i think 80K is a saner price range, post 2006-2009 era.

It is called conditioning.

It is also our own kiasuism at play.

Actually, it is good, COE should go up next round, we need to flush out the kanchiong spiders. It is like the equity market, correction takes out the weak holders, consolidate, so the tread can continue.

If quota is not going up quarter on quarter from now till 2016, I may jump in as well but we all know the COE tsunami is coming, so there is more downside than upside. If I am wrong, just pay 60-70k COE. If right, can buy 50K (or below) COE.

My view (assume no clawback and draconian financing rules stay).

Agree. Cheap or not, its relative. People are so used to paying 70-80k for a COE and are happy now that its fallen to 60k.

50k is not impossible, its just a matter of timing

Yes it is. But I believe new car buyers are more likely to think this way. People who bought cars earlier at much lower prices and who think it's cheap now have either seen their incomes increased sharply or they are not very rational. To me $10k saved can pay for a lot of other stuff.

Same thoughts here.

The expectations on future COE supply makes this latest price drop different from earlier short-term price drop. In the recent past, it was all purely due to the squeeze on demand side, e.g. from auto finance rule tightening.

How many orders are actually placed remains to be seen. If I lived near a car showroom, and if I have time, I might be part of the crowd but it would just to look-see only haha.

My working place carparks is really weird! When coe was hovering at 10-15ks there were ample parking for all who drives.....it went on for a few yrs and there were even extra lots to choose from. When the price went north....suddenly the lots become packed till some had to park away from the parking lot!

When cars are expensive people want to make full use of it to make it worth it. When I was in Primary school my dad only uses his car for work, hardly drive out on weekends because public transport more fun. Then as COE goes up he start making full use of his car. Everywhere also drive. Going to a coffeeshop 15 min walk away also drive.

Not sure about that.....but most are first time owners! Maybe when the coe was at 10-15ks they were expecting it to drop further....but coe price went up instead and as a typical kiasu Singaporean/Pr....they feared that it will climb higher and started to buy! There is one who changed his car buying a used one recently thinking vie was going to climb higher! Too bad coe price went south.....!

Just like property, record high price, ppl buy. Record recession, ppl still want to sell.

Herd mentality, follow the.business cycle if you have the moola and patient. Otherwise, forgo and then reenter later like how Li Ka Shin exit China, for now.

How to let all bider in the forum, so we can control the C.O.E when anyone bid the same.the price shall drop.if 500 paper, biders is 600. We have same bid at 200person the prices sure drop. That why all dealers bid higher prices. All consumer cooperate together, our gov will change the rules again.
