Upgrading V40 with volvo OEM accessories to twin exhaust part. Need to get LTA clearance and declare to insurance company? Anyone can advise... I am afraid if it will fail inspection or insurance don't cover.

Hi,

I got my V40 D2 in November. After driving for a month, there is a loud vibration. I went for a check at SM but they say it's due to fuel contamination and it's not under warranty. I switched to Shell but it's still the same. Anyone encountered this problem before?

Hi all,

This does not appear to be an isolated case, if you experienced similar issue as Bro genethz with your ride please contact him or myself.

Cheers.

Hi,

Yes. The sound is akin to the sound of a hovering helicopter when idling. As you accelerate, the engine growls loudest at 1500 rpm or 35km/h. If anyone has this problem feel free to contact.

Cheers.

Doesnt sounds right. Also driving a D2 (not V40 though) since Sep last year but do not have this issue. Using caltex all along except tried once on shell. Which fuel are you using?

Stick with caltex. Never pump spc diesel.

Hi,

Was using Esso, I heard good reviews about Caltex. Will go to Shell or Caltex from now on.

Personally I felt caltex was slightly smoother.. Have been a long time shell customer when I was previously driving a petrol car.

Do update us after the switch :)

Hi Mkl22,

Do you have any bad experience with SPC? Very tempted to SPC for convenience.

Hi,

I'm also on D2 engine, using SPC since my 1st topup.

I thought it was normal for Diesel engine to vibrate at this rate.

Felt the same vibrations and I'll step on the throttle slightly more.

Happens on around the same speed. Sometimes around 70-80kmh when I depress the accelerator only 0-10% to keep a safe distant from the front vehicle.

I'll try using Caltex the next round, see if there is any difference.

Will update again.

My 2000 renault kangoo had a diet of only caltex diesel for the last 13.5 years. Except maybe a few occasions when I tried esso diesel. About 6-7 months ago I decided to use SPC diesel as they allowed credit card payment and had good discounts. Caltex's discount was less and I also have to use only cash. So thinking of saving some I used spc.

Findings were during the 6 months of usage I suffered lack of power and I thought there was something wrong with the engine. Smoke test at STA inspection also had more soot than previous tests with caltex. Decided I had enough and paid more for caltex diesel. The power came back instantly within 1 tank. Engine was so much smoother and more powerful. It' has been 2 months and The power is still there and I'm now using only caltex diesel.

Will also be seeing if the smoke test in a couple of months show less soot. If it does, then I'll be 100% sure that SPC diesel really robs power and give you more black smoke.

I know diesel is diesel, petrol is petrol. All the same. I refused to believe it initially, but the difference is significantly noticeable.

Great. Thanks for sharing. I hear too many good feedbacks for Caltex already. I guess it's clear where to go now. :)

Was trying out various types of diesel when I first got my D2 and agree that Caltex and Shell performs the best. Finally stick to Shell as it give me better miles and power. SPC is actually the worst of them all. Now doing quite consistantly 14.8 to 15 km/ltr.

Hi, still having the same issue as yours and I am on S60 D2. This normally happens when my car rev below 1500 and when I start to gas up there is a momentarily vibration until can hits 1500 rev and above.

One thing that's happening on my D2 is sometimes when I stop the engine there is a shiver on the engine. Read somewhere that it happens when oil is deprived in the turbo, not sure if this is true. Any experience out there? Any solution for this to protect the turbo?

I have been driving my v40 d2 since sep14. My fuel comsumption is ard 7.6l/100km. Is it normal or should be much lower. I ve been pumping at Esso since day one and have not encountered any of the problem. Is there any complaints abt esso diesel?

I guess it's normal for Diesel engine? Maybe pros can advise?

When the engine vibrates more on 2nd or 3rd gear, just step on the accelerator more and enjoy the ride :)

Still have half tank SPC Diesel left before I switch to Caltex to see if any difference.

I guess Esso is alright? Why not you give Caltex or Shell a try and update the difference you find? :)

No harm trying what other bros say is better.

Currently on my 3rd tank and I'm getting 12-13km/l without auto stop start.

On SPC Diesel.
