Any owners here has a thule bike rack on their roof?

I'm goin to transfer the roof rack from my old car to the xtrail but i'm wondering what the height of the car will be with the rack on. The height of the xtrail is 1.71m, Worried about those carpark with height limit of 1.8m if i add on the racks

hi fai

when I was looking for a bicycle rack, I realise that our XT is way too tall to secure / carry a bike over the roof using the roof rack system... that is why I went to do a hitch type bike rack (at the back), and for 4 bikes, it work out cheaper.

my advise is if anything measure more that 1.8m, is very risky.

I already own a Thule roof rack with 3 bike carriers. Just need to transfer, guess i need to fix up the rack myself and measure the height on my own. Height of xtrail is 1.71m, i still have 89cm to play around with. Just need to keep that in mind

I went to Pro Rv today and the manager informed me that the height will definitely exceed 1.8m if i install the roof rack.

So.... I will be installing a hitch and getting the yakima holder, was quoted about $460 and $200 for fabrication and installation of the hitch.

Bro gorilla chow and michaeleu, i see that both of you have different exit point for the hitch, one thru the bumper and the other from underneath the bumper, mind telling me wat was your consideration when deciding where the mounting point protrudes?

The antenna is at least one foot. Some have changed to shark-fin type or other shorter length. Those keeping the original, do you have a problem so far especially inside MSCP 1.8m ht restriction?

I got enter 1 mscp and it was bad, I can hear my antenna dragging on the TOP wall, cant remember what the height of the carpark, it was near Yishun. Later when I revisit I try check the height limit

Hi Fai

My hitch receiver is locally fabricated, as for bro michaeleu, his is purchased from etrailer.com. mine being locally fabricated, i get to decide where and how to get it come out (below or through the hole). My thought was, having it out through the bumper, i can still maintain my road ground clearance and the hitch receiver can be hideaway, not so obvious.

Oh where is this pro rv? Am using Yakima ridgeback 4. Hope info is useful.

Here's the thing, immediately I left the mscp and open the roof to inspect and luckily my roof wasn't damaged, only the antenna was grinding the top wall, I'm looking to buy those shark fin antenna too, but I scared it might affect the reception! Currently listening to kiss92 got static even when I'm out in the open but other fm stn all ok

Hi pocy

I had used, the 12cm, 6cm and presently using the shark fin. My view... in accordance to the reception, starting from the best to the worst is as follow.

1)stock, 2)shark fin, 3)12cm and 4)6cm. My view.

By the way, with shark fin, it can clear 1.8m high.

Gorilla chow, pro rv is at mactech at kallang pudding. They are the main distributors for Thule and they also have yakima products.

Michaeleu, I'm also looking at getting the curt hitch from etrailer, the price is about $150 usd, quite reasonable. But I can't find the difference between class 2 hitch and class 3 hitch

Try TaoBao.. i got my shark fin for my renault from there. you can find many type of shark fin for many brands of car.. installation is easy and come with instruction but in chinese mostly.. however, it is very easy, unscrew screw and stick..

BTW it is also very cheap.. range from a few dollars SGD to less than 20SGD. I got mine below 10SGD exclude freight.. they have various color to fit your car..
