Let me chip in to Jckok888's points.

The A4 has a much bigger boot and more spacious rear seats for 3 adults. The only reason I will buy a beemer is for the RWD thus a more engaging drive. But that aside, the A4 is a better day-to-day car with better practicality.

$160k for a dated Audi model or the spanking new 3 series... Hmmm

Is the 3 series available at $160k? when was that offer?

If I am not wrong, DSG and S tronic is the same thing, just different names.

Yes, I believe so. Both referring to the same.

But interestingly, if both are the same, how come we don't hear much of the Audi MU failures associated with VW 7 DSG. Especailly in recent years where Audi has gained quite a good market share. Or is it Audi owners more atas, never come to forum kpkb, or Premium Auto service levels better?

My understanding from SA, A4 & A6 is using MU (multitronic) same as CVT gearbox.

High-end model (like A4 2.0T) or latest A3 Sedan using Stronic which like DSG dual clutch system.

SA told me that both stronic and DGS are different mechanism therefore never heard any problem happen for Audi Car.

Definitely welcome for any question if got doubt.

I bought mine at 165k at the end of Dec 2013. At the time, 316i selling 178k and PML offer my old car trade in value is 4k lower than Audi.

Before saw the Audi offer, I am test drive new Honda accord, Passat, Volvo S60, C200, BMW 316i and no one catch my eye because high price vs equipment offered vs interior. Until I saw the Audi offer at 165k at last week of Dec and my wife and me impressed such good ride at reasonable price. Audi using open Cat to register my new ride without waiting COE bidding and collected 1 week after new year.. :)

Went down to PML with a friend who was looking for a new car, got offered 316i at around 160k a few months back. This price excludes some more freebies squeezed out of the salesman... Also, bumped into Cecilia Cheung there lolz...

Are you refer to 316i business version? There is 2 version, business version is 10k cheaper than normal version but only come with artificial leather seat and basic interior.

The BMW SA offer me at 178k is normal version, there is luxury or sport options.

If you are using the bare bones model from Audi as comparison, isn't it obvious you'd compare against the bare bones BMW model?

By the same token, I can compare this basic 3 series to a spec'd up A4 and make a sweeping statement that A4 costs tens of thousands more than a 3 series... [rolleyes]

Obviously you are a big fan of your newly bought A4 but your initial post misleads...

Nuff' said.

A4 170bhp/320Nm vs BMW 316i 136bhp/220Nm

bone stock vs bone stock or simi synthetic leather

A4 anytime ... and A4 is FWD ... the rear seat leg room is [thumbsup]

why cannot comment?

I can't even pose a question?

Your points above are all subjective except for the 316 being 15k higher than the A4... Did you even go to PML and check? [rolleyes]

Did u even see the hand brake on the 316? It looks out of place in a premium car. Other than that the 316 is decent and has a nice 8 spd zf gb.

For comparison's sake:

If no hurry for a new car, why not wait for the new W205 C-class by Q3 '2014, may cost slightly more, but isn't it more atas to drive a brand new 3-pointed star model. Someone I knew bought a 1yr old A4 2L Quattro and sold it away in 6mths, though I never heard any complain from him on the A4

Wah! for comparison sake you show the S4 cabin. The flat bottom steering wheel is a dead giveaway. Haha

Plus the handbrake in the 3 series is there for a reason. [sly]

[thumbsup] ...... I see some die hard audi fans here

Personally, I feel the newer Audis all look the same throughout the model ranges, from far, very little differentiation. A3, A4, A6 all look similar, they must b very (or too) confident of the design, but may not be a bad thing for the lower range model buyers.

Yah man. over sensationalised [laugh]

Also agree on having a mechanical handbrake. One less thing to go wrong with. And read some reviews that the e-park brake rolls forward on a downhill after engaging.

Another gripe I have on new tech for some cars is the stupid start stop. Too me I don't see a huge saving in petrol and reduction in emissions unless it's really stationary for a while like up to 3 to 5min at least. With all these start stopping wouldn't the starter go kaput earlier?

This is just my assumption. Any bros here driving car with the start stop function? Or had it de-activated?

Might be the "lite" version and maybe OPC?

Maybe the former. Hence less creature comforts. Unlikely OPC cuz it'll be a gross misinterpration. If they do that they better be prepared to get cussed at after the customers got themselves a rude shock.

Hopefully not. Guess I may be out of touch in car shopping but in the past when they say "from $xxxxxx" it is usually a low price and it is OPC the word "from" meaning the lowest entry price point to get that car...if it's not OPC then $159999 is really good buy even if there is a new model coming up. New model will probably be in the $2xx,xxx range....the A3 1.4T sedan being already in the $165-$177k range...If new A4 below $200k will cannibalise the A3 unless they bring in A4 1.4T haha....

The s4 interior was the first pic I found so just pasted it in. Between s4 and normal a4 interior, not much difference other than the sw and knob. Anw I just want to point to the handbrake and epb (electronic parking brake) difference and how it changes the look of a cabin.

F30 is a car from 2012/2013, while the older a4 is from 08. Looking at the interior, I wouldn't say the audi fared too badly.

Note to all, I'm talking about interior and handbrake.. Not driving feel, rwd vs fwd or even cost comparison. ;)

Bro the epb rolls backwards part is not caused by epb. It's due to transmission - if it's dual clutch or multitronic (audi's cvt), the clutch is not engaged momentarily when u release the epb and the gearbox is changing to gear 1,and thus there's some rolling backwards motion. There's Hill hold assist to help. Not as straightforward as conventional auto, I know...
