You mean the panel on top of the screen? Hmmm... that one can't find online... I think can leave the buttons on the bottom row intact - that is they become funny buttons lor... just reuse the existing panels... if you opt for a totally touch screen panel, should be ok?

I don’t know what panel the installers meant Bro. I wished I could post a picture of my existing HU. I just don’t wanna be taken for a ride by paying more for something I don’t need. But also it’s weird because they told me the Sonata’s a customized HU and needs the correct panel, so they cannot sell me. They’re losing out a sale so I don’t think they are bulls***ing.

Bro... you take a look at the photos on this page of the thread:

https://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2694083-hyundai-sonata-2015/page-22

Does your HU look like this? Scroll down a bit to view the series of photos I posted.

Same car model and year. Different HU though. Mine doesn’t have GPS and buttons are the sides instead of the bottom.

Bro check out this link.

Believed yours is the stock generation 1 unit. I think the panel the installer is referring to is this piece (go to the 3min mark) in this linked youtube video:

Either you buy a new piece or some installers are willing to customise and cut for you, of course for a fee.

Taobao got plenty but they are for LHD model.

Mine and Mingern's type is the generation 2 type (similar to the video).

Oh I see... yours is the factory fitted HU... ours is a locally fitted HU... I think you need to buy our front fascia from Komoco. They will sure be able to order for you. Just see need to wait how long and if it's cost effective...

Bro Alfc is correct... this part is easily available on eBay except that it fits only left hand drive... which is a great pity...

One other option you have is if Komoco is not willing to order in this part, you can try Hyundai Malaysia.

And actually the GPS isn't all that great... from Galatico. But got to pay to update maps. I rather use Google Maps. Hence also interested in an inexpensive unit that can do Android Auto. Although having the mobile phone clipped up to the windscreen isn't too bad a solution also.

The current HU we both (bro Alfc) use isn't the best... the two most annoying things are the fact that the screen is resistive, now my screen protector has lots of vertical scratch marks, and also the sorting of MP3 files is totally ridiculous - sorts by modified dates rather than file names... so my folders are mis-ordered and so are the files in each folder... otherwise the sound quality is pretty good with the stock speakers... I don't use any other function on the HU actually, not the GPS, not the Bluetooth hands-free phone function or radio even...

Yeah that makes sense. Maybe would approach Komoco next time I go servicing to see how much they would quote me.

If you guys can use after market HU without changing panel, check out the pioneer HU at Carousell. Got a few good deals there.

I called Komoco and they told me they can only order your HU. The HU and panel comes from China and costs $1100 to change There’s no other options. Lol I told him thank you but it’s ok. Even he advised me against it.

On the other hand, another seller from Carousell I reached out to replied me that the pioneer 5150 and everything else can be changed for $998. He has successfully changed my HU before but the 5150 cannot connect to Apple play wirelessly. It has to be wired. The other option to change to 9150 which can connect Android auto and mirror your phone to the HU, plus wirelessly connect Apple cost $1400-1500. Lol. Let me sleep on it and decide.

Thanks for updating. At least it is doable but at this price, might as well go for a better HU than ours. Better than those tablet style console where you can't do anything at all. You may want to check out the other thread on the 9150. Think there is some issues on the phone mirror thing.

Yeah thanks for the reminder. I read about that but I can’t mirror my phone anyway cause I’m not using android. The new firmware also solves some Apple wireless issue so I might take the plunge.

Thanks for the update... totally agree with bro Alfc, at $1100 not worth buying our type of HU... so they're not willing to just bring in the panel... hmmm...

I didn't know Apple Car Play can be wireless? I thought both Apple Car Play and Android Auto must be done through wired connections...

Another thing I remember reading about Pioneer HU is that their touch screens don't work so well... is that true? Or did I get mixed up? I didn't like my Dad's double DIN unit on his old Magentis cos there were lots of tiny buttons and no rotary wheel for the volume control... super unintuitive interface... not sure if it's still like that...

Yeah the new pioneer 9150 can Wireless. Being their first batch that can do Wireless initally they had issues but latest firmwares seemed to have solved some of it. If wait longer I think newer models should be better. Now is Bluetooth 5.0 so it’s said to be able to connect 2 devices simultaneously.

Now everything touch screen le the pioneer HU should be pretty good now but I can’t comment much because my old Avante was stock pioneer HU that wasn’t touch screen. Maybe some Bros can share their feedbacks.

I’m waiting for the installer to quote me. He mentioned will try to get me the best possible price after checking stock of everything so let’s see. If anyone else is interested in this or the wired one can do a group buy together with me

Aiyoh... that's sad... so how? You're going to shelf this project?

Thinking of going to drive to JB and ask around. SG definitely can’t do it liao since no panel so maybe next week drive in ask around. If don’t have then use stock for the next 8 years or by some stoke of luck win 4D and change car :)
