Kennethoka 2nd Gear February 18, 2016 Share February 18, 2016 (edited) My guess Komoco purposely increase the Sonata price to that level because they want to the new Elantra to be more attractive. The new Elantra cost $100,999. If the Sonata cost only around $109K. The new Elantra might not look justified with that price tag. At first i thought signing the dotted line for Sonata this weekend if the price increment is justified with the increment of COE. But with this price i might look out for some other brand maybe Nissan Qasqhai. Edited February 18, 2016 by Kennethoka

Those whom feel elantra is too highly priced will just have to wait for price to drop. simple. 100k and 109k is 9k difference and just about the price for other brands when it comes to 2 different class of vehicles. Kennethoka 2nd Gear February 18, 2016 Share February 18, 2016 Can intro your se? Feel like buying the teana 2.0l since you say until so good. My priority price then comfort. Since the price of sonata is about the same as teana.
teomingern 6th Gear February 18, 2016 Share February 18, 2016 Wah so high..i book the 2.5L Teana at 124800 and more comfort and more luxury feel than sonata loh. Too crazy price You booked the Teana before this COE increase... compare apples to apples lar... don't anyhow whack... Tan Chong will also raise the price of their Teana correspondingly. teomingern 6th Gear February 18, 2016 Share February 18, 2016 (edited) Tan chong same price as before i book..that time the gap is 102999 sonata and 121999 2L teana High spec is 112988 to 129999 2.5L teana Now sonata increase but teana didn't increase so what mind will wan go for hyundai when a little more can get a better comfort ride. Moreover the discount for tan chong not that small. Maybe they haven't raised the price? Cos before the last COE fall, all the Jap 2.0 L were above $130K... my thoughts are that it's unlikely that they won't revise the price upwards... Hyundai is always one of the first to change their prices if I am not wrong... let's see what the prices are like at this weekend... cos Kia Optima is still the same price... given the higher OMV, I find it hard to believe that Kia won't raise the price... I went in to Nissan SG website they already update the price for all the cars. For Teana, it only increase 3K across all variant. Which because attractive as compare to Sonata. I think the reason been why most of the other car brand dealer did not increase too much this time round is because the previous round they do not reduce the price significantly e.g. CAT B COE reduce 12K, KIA and Hyundai reduce 10K for the CAT B car where else the others only reduce around 5K to 6K. but this time round CAT B COE increased 9K. Hyundai ( not sure about KIA as haven't update the price yet) increase the price by 11K and for other brand car I notice they didn't increase much. Therefore for this round price of Sonata does not look attractive as compare to other car. I don't know they price the Sonata at this range is it because they don;t want to hurt the sale of new Elantra which they also place it at high price. Another I also notice, when Jan COE is at $50xxx, Sonata is selling at $112,999 but now the COE is $46,970 Sonata is selling at $113,999. So nett to nett Sonata have increased 4K. Thanks for the analysis... that's quite interesting... but again it depends on the perspective... cos here it seems that the buying public expects the Sonata to be priced lower simply due to the badge? While Komoco may well feel that the quality of the car and accessories are definitely worthy of being on par with the Japanese makes. In any case, since the OMV of the Sonata is lower, it will give Komoco more room to maneuver with the COE bidding I guess, while for the Japanese makes, the COE rise will probably narrow their margins and hence maybe reduce their flexibility in the next bidding exercise? Just some speculation on my part though... But certainly, with only a $1000 difference, many people will prefer the Teana since it's a Japanese make. A comparison of the features will show if it's of better value than the Sonata at the current price. Also we don't know if the price for the Sonata & Teana is before or after discounts (although I am 99% sure it's after discount). For all you know, the Teana might actually be priced lower in the end... hahaha... EDIT: I refuse to drive a car with a CVT though... but the pricing may make me eat my words... hahahaha... The main differences are: 1) Sunroof on the Sonata 2) Hands-free boot lid release on the Sonata 3) 18" rims on the Sonata 4) Driver's seat memory function on the Sonata 5) Built-in navigation on the Teana The rest may not be listed on Sg Car Mart. teomingern 6th Gear February 19, 2016 Share February 19, 2016 Sonata-- 18" rims very swee but abit too bumpy Got DRL Panaromic Moonroof Seat not shiok 6 speakers normal sound Seat quite hard Teana-- 17" rim okok look Bose 9 speakers Super shiok zero gravity seat No DRL No blind spot indicator Backseat is soft and shiok Features is sonata win but if u go test drive u will know why i rather pay 10k and higher road tax to get a teana. Teana got the luxury feel that camry and sonata don't have I agree the Teana is more luxurious feeling... the Camry feels cheap, the Sonata is just feels well-made but not special. But some people don't like the Teana interior cos they feel is quite 'ah pek' with all the glossy wood trim. And some prefer a more austere German look like the Optima interior. teomingern 6th Gear February 19, 2016 Share February 19, 2016 Kia i worry no parts or expensive parts cos it's service by our premium AD Huh? No lar... that's a myth... they have different standards for different marques... anyway they don't do Mercedes anymore... so they have lowered their sights much further down the pecking order with what they are left with. Kennethoka 2nd Gear February 19, 2016 Share February 19, 2016 The price for K5 has out. $116,999. Usually K5 price will be always $1,000 lesser than Sonata S/R. but this time round it is 7K lesser. based on the trend from few bids previously, Sonata S/R price should increase to $117,999 instead of $123,999. This made K5 has the lowest annual depreciation among K5, Sonata non S/R and Sonata S/R. It make more sense to buy K5 instead of Sonata for this time round. features Sonata S/R >= K5 > Sonata non S/R price Sonata non S/R > K5 > Sonata S/R annual depreciation K5 > (better than) Sonata non S/R > (better than) Sonata S/R my wild guess reason why Sonata price increased so much 1) To make the newly launched Elantra price look attractive 2) last round bid, a lot of people booked Sonata, so there is a long list of backlog to clear and now they don't want to take in order until they have clear the backlog. 3) very unlikely. Komoco shake hand with C&C to help C&C to make K5 look attractive in term of price.
Runforyourlife 5th Gear February 19, 2016 Share February 19, 2016 Nah. Sonata is a cat b car. Elantra is a cat a car. Period lol.
Kennethoka 2nd Gear February 19, 2016 Share February 19, 2016 precisely, they need to make a big gap between CAT A and CAT B mah. If the gap is small i don't think people want to buy the highly priced Elantra. ↡ Advertisement
