teomingern 6th Gear January 28 Share January 28 My Sonata LF will be 9 years old this April 2025 ... So just an update... Had to fix these items since the 7th year: 1. Right washer nozzle stuck & replaced at Komoco at $18. Due to my adding the screen washer in the wash tank. 2. Left washer nozzle stuck. Not fixed. 3. Left side fender chrome strip dropped off. $130 to replace. Not fixed. 4. Changed all the brake pads in 2023. 5. Changed rear shock absorbers cos leaking. 6. Changed ABS sensor cos warning light came up. 7. Changed from shock absorbers, complete set of front and rear lower control arms with the bushings and wheel hubs cos of a whining sound due to damaged bearing and also the car wobbled up front. Tyre wear was uneven due to the bushings been worn out. Also changed a full set of tyres at the same time. 8. Changed engine cover cos engine oil leaking. 9. Changed left side HID main headlight bulb. Warning on trip computer. 10. Changed right side static cornering light bulb. Warning on trip computer. 11. Rain sensing wipers can't stop sometimes even with switch in off position. Not fixed. ↡ Advertisement

I recently replaced my aircon evaporator coil (got to dismantle whole dashboard to get to). Other than that, have not touched any of the above you mentioned. Btw, did yours developed an intermittent ticking noise from the engine during idling that come and go.

No didn't leh... but my idling is getting rough... my child seats are rattling a bit at traffic lights... I have already changed my engine mounts (forgot to list there) so not likely due to this... possibly have to change the spark plugs (they're the original since I bought the car ha ha ha)... Wah your evaporator coil died already? That's very expensive leh... I didn't go back to Komoco... I fix everything at Fix Auto... find them honest and knowledgeable... how much did it cost you? Fixing my headlamp light bulb was terrible... had to take out so many things just to take out the whole headlight unit to change the bulb... kenna extra $20 charge for the extra work... the bulb is screwed down, not plug and twist type... cost me $200... the workshop had to try 2 different bulbs to find one that worked... even though the specs matched... and now my lights are white... I preferred the original warmer light... penetration was better in the dark and rain... The rest are mostly suspension related... suspect is cos my work place has 12 of those hard rubber bumps... every day also kenna 24 times... very bad for the suspension components... This car is a technological marvel... everything is connected to the trip computer... lots of sensors to tell you what is wrong with the car... every bulb in the headlights assembly will trigger a warning in the trip computer if the bulb blows... amazing... very few cars are like that today I think... I really love this car... very sad got to scrap once the COE expires... Anyway how long more do you have for your car? Got to change soon right? Hope my ticking is not any indication of a engine problem but going to change spark plug (not changed before since new) soon too to see if is is related. The evaporator coil I change at my regular workshop, less than $600. Think is very reasonable considering so much labor involved to dismantle the whole dashboard and quite a good job (still solid and no rattling after fix back). The evaporator coil itself i think is $100+ only. Agree this is a very well put together car, NVH is still top notch by today's standard and a very good low profile car. I got 2 more years to go and intend to renew COE (think COE might be slightly lower by then but regardless I will just renew it since already saving a lot from buying new for a same class car and I am not ready to switch to EV at this point).

Oooo... I dare not take the chance to renew next year April... cos the CAT B COE just jumped to $121,000... I'll be left stranded if the COE also jump like crazy at the end of this year... issue is that the CAT B caters to the well-heeled these days whose car dealers just push the premium up to sell cars... very siong... Yeah, $600 for the coil is a good price! Can PM your workshop contact? Seems cheaper than mine. Would love to use a cheaper and reliable workshop in the future. Thank you in advance! Just send in to your regular workshop to diagnose the ticking sound? Yeah I hope it's just spark plugs... it's a cheap fix... might be the same issue as my car's increased vibration at idling... Gong Xi Fa Cai. I just drop you a message on the workshop I go to. You can try a quotation if they suit you. Hopefully COE will dip a little as the supply come in. In any case, renewing is still paying a lot less vs buying a new similar class car altogether unless you "downgrade". On the ticking sound, my workshop think is a regular thing not a cause for concern but I am not sure. Will monitor to see if is get worse or change the spark plug in my next service. Happy Lunar New Year to you too! Yeah lar... I prefer to 'downgrade' lor... ha ha... in terms of features, not much difference... just the space and power... but more power = higher fuel consumption... What are you averaging for fuel consumption after so many years? I'm only doing 10-10.8 km/L... I drive about 40 km a day, about 55:45 highway to urban driving... Alfc 5th Gear February 1 Share February 1 @teomingern Haha even if "downgrade", a new b&b car easily $150k and above. My mileage still as comparable as new. About 10km/l if mostly city driving but if go on long stretches of expressway driving can get 14km/l.

For car of comparable size, got Aion ES $142k🤭

Also got to let go of the old "luxuries" like blind spot detection, rear traffic alert, memory and ventilated seats, rain sensor, panaromic sunroof, 510L boot etc that were already in the sonata 10 years ago. The ride and comfort quality would also be a different class. But having said that, base on today's car price, the Aion ES is not bad, value for money proposition at least on paper and looks ok if one is ready to switch to EV on a budget.

You are talking about downgrade ma. Aion ES is about the same size as your car. Seen it on the road

Given improvement in technology over the years, i am sure many of the new cars (especially the chinese EVs) are worthy "downgrades" even from jap/korean/contis from the last generation.

Yeah same same... only in Malaysia I get 13-14 km/L... usually I get 12 km/L cos I go at high speed... and I usually accelerate pretty hard on the NSHW... like 5000+ RPM type... ha ha ha... very hard on fuel consumption... Ceecookie 5th Gear February 2 Share February 2 (edited) Spoke to my ex-SE during the motorshow event last month. Komoco has no plans to bring in sonata anymore coz market trends is now SUV. The 2015 model would be the last one sold locally. Edited February 2 by Ceecookie

The last one is the facelifted model to the 2015 model... it was last sold in 2018... I've seen like 2-3 of them on the road only... The latest Sonata is really nice... 2025 model year and available only in US & Korea... wonder if available in Malaysia... Yesterday as I was doing my runs in the multi-storey car park, I saw a SLA plate Sonata LF sunroof in white parked at one of the upper floors... still looked so new... I wonder if the owner renewed the COE already since it's older than my own SLB plate which has 1 year and 1.5 months to go...
