Micro P.... 7-5-7.

Hi Hosaybo,

What amps will you be driving your MP 7-5-7 ? Had used 7-z-7 and now with 4 way z and my masterstrokes amps .. MP will be betta with thick sounding amps cos very clean and airy.

Z mid is the darling of MP and I can understand why bro budgetice suggested this ... my focal Be 3 ways was much much betta when I put my spare z mid just 2 months ago in my qashqai with groundzero reference 2/4 and throw out the Be mid especially sincd when moved to A pillar instead of restricted pods.

Btw what car are you driving cos passive sub is no fun unless sedan with ample space and enclosed rear boot .. for suv or mpv, box will take up too much space in box at rear boot for say 12" and I also tried fiberglass into D pillar which deafen rear passengers or give them bad headache by the time you can sense it in driver seat. Also tried customised center console with 10" in estima which is not possible in many cars... just keep your active 8" sub to save big $ which will be fine with MP since you cannot be into hiphop, rap or rock with choice of MP. Passive sub less than 500w cannot make it and 1kw will be ideal even for 12".

You can pm me to hear my qashqai with probably same pioneer 8" active sub ..

Cheers.

Richard

Our ears are all different. Its really the best if you bring your fave music and demo the different available options.

Hi Genes,

Believe more on budget you had set aside for your audio upgrade which is the most important consideration for car audio.

Car audio is near field listening not unlike recording studio.

For home audio, I do also think it is subjective on preferred tonality for type of intended music which equally hiend aka mega priced models of Krell, McIntosh, Naim or those 8W tube Kondo will sound completely different but hard to say which is betta.

Cheers.

Using helix P6 dsp with integrated amp. Hope it is doable. No space for amps and will require pulling out all the things and rewire again.....

You are right that I am more into vocal. Passive sub is a pioneer. Bass is decent but can sense that not as tight as I used to run a diamond passive sub which gives a solid thump for certain tracks.

Hi Hosaybo,

Helix P6 dsp is really vfm with doable 3 way .. great choice !

Solid thump from passive sub needs a lot of work and not easy to acheive without power. Also the mentioned space and headache for rear passengers unless you are driving sedan car.

Active sub is also vfm at say sgd350 vs easily 1k to much more for decent level due to amp+sub+box/fiberglass+wiring etc. Since into vocal, save this $ for Z mid which is in a class of its own ?

Waah diamond sub ... you must be as old as me or not far cos this brand >> 10 yrs ago liao.

Cheers.

I am getting a less than 1 yr old dekit unit from a contact who is selling off his ride with the custom pillar. Was not prepare to pay the full price. Unlikely to look into the z series though would love to hear your 4 way setup. Most I know run 3 way and 4 way makes it really difficult to tune to make it seamless!

Maybe I should just stop at that I move on and enjoy the music. Cheers

Hi Hosay,

Aaah .. even betta bought used from trustable .. vfm and oreli run in.

Actually 3 way much easy to tune for good staging and good sound ... why try tuning midbass from doors for midrange especially on driver side firing at 80% to driver seat ?? Will never sound right e.g. rainbow effect, not prefered eq etc. and hence all best 2 ways zero chance at emma.

3 ways with midrange up on pillar positioned with tweeters oreli swee sweet and in phase with nice vocal aka midrange singing to you is the only way .. 3 way.

My 4 way is just with sub and nothing to cry for especially MP Z sub is 10" nia ... just a bit more extension for wider staging.

My current set up is preferred multi media now with android HU and no longer SQ inclined ... enjoying flawless FM radio channels rather than demo cd nowadays and still WIP for usb dsd playback but sure, just PM when free to audition to your heart content.

Spare cash, good bonus, 4D prize etc. and do try Z midrange if you can ... just a short journey on such materistic stuff and indeed no end .. not high end .. but good to have goals to strive for in our short life.

Cheers.

Best is everything stock... Lesser headache with lesser controls to tune/worry about... Lol

With more components in the audio chain, the more they coloured the sound like what an equalizer does to your sound.

Hi Cephas,

Just saw your latest toy with upgraded Maxmimo 2 ways ...do not know them but din know Morel has such vfm aftermkt component speakers ... nice !!

Indeed dsp requires tuning and other considerations of installation and other component upgrades.

However, they do not color the sound else who wants to spent mega buck to do so ? Instead this effort allows you to get closely to what was recorded in the studio or live event if indeed recorded live.

Stock systems are designed with cost consideration while high end aka no end aftermkt equipment strives to reduce SNR especially installation to avoid abnormalities e.g. soundproofing against vibrations etc. while having the dsp tool for the many corrections from lousy car conditions to reproduce the recordings.

With such higher end car audio set up, you will notice that you can heard recorded music at much louder/higher volume to hear the details but yet have less trouble hearing what your passenger(s) are saying to you.

With stock headunit and lack of right installation, same recorded music is there but masked by noises and poor SNR of equipment ... hence also your effort on the installation of aftermkt speakers like Morel maximo.

Cheers.

No worries as I wanted to install a Alpine HU (touchscreen+BT), a Blaupunkt 4-ch with DSP, under seat active sub along with the Morel 2-way for a 2.1 active setup.

But alas, my HU bracket is ok but I did not manage to get the outer frame that holds bracket

Everything have to put on hold except for the stock speakers which needed replacement as both woofers' foam surround had long disintegrated.

Signal to Noise Ratio not too bad a concern to me as playback in car is always subjected to road or external noise pollution.

Minimumly, the Morel has up my sound clarity by 20%. Positioning of your components is also very important in contributing to the overall quality you are getting from your system.

Cheers and enjoy the music on the go!

Many things can discuss in an enclosed car environment setting like time alignment/delay, reverb, digital sound(signal) processing, etc.

Sharing is "caring" aka poisoning. :p

Hi Cephas,

Aaah ... good to know cos I had though you were against aftermkt upgrade like dsp etc. One bro on P6 with DSP is nice cos with future proofing of 3 way instead of your mentioned Blaupunkt for your consideration if not already purchased.

Looks like your project due to HU bracket will be delayed but guess can slowly enjoy upgrade and knows the improvement after each one.

On SNR being not too bad a concern while on the road, it may be the case unlike home hifi where aircon whispers can spoil it all but every bit helps.  More importantly,  car audio is also near field listening like recording studios that helps to alleviate road/external noise pollution to a large extend unless your stock car is too noisy as when you wind down your car window(s). As also mentioned earlier, lowered  SNR of an high end audio car setup means you can up the volume of purer sound frequencies without the usual stock equipment noise that will also relegate mentioned road/external noises to almost inaudible while not killing your hearing and yet be able to engage your passenger in a conversation.

Cheers,

Richard

Hi Goh,

Glad it is with BT .. this is new in last 1-2 yrs.

German maestro I had heard and sounds ok but there are various models also.

Sgd1k is about there but dun think is buddy price.

Still believe this will not be betta than stock HU with subaru designated upgrade speakers kits with active sub and SP in front door for about the same 1k .. the active sub and door SP will be a world of difference.

Cheers.

Richard

Hi Richard,

yeah, i will not say it is buddy price.. but at least their knife is not so sharp, and also, they know my name as GOH and not carrot or robert.

Hi Goh,

Haha ... cos I thought relative's recommendation being mentioned which usually means better pricing else worse off to have more "relative" issue if things do not work out.

Goh is gold ??   [:p]

Hi Cephas,

Miss this one ...... and only if not already purchased or committed.

Amp with DSP is great but primarily for stock headunit.

Since already getting Alpine HU, please consider getting one with optical input cos make big difference to dsp in amp like mentioned P6 dsp amp to avoid multiple DA and AD conversions.

https://www.audiotec-fischer.de/en/helix/amplifiers/p-six-dsp-mk2

  • Inputs: 6 x RCA, 6 x Highlevel with up to 20V RMS input sensitivity, optical SPDIF input

Not sure of the Blaupunkt 4 channel dsp but hope to help you to have future proofing even if need to spend a bit more now while enjoying typical highly SQ which is the goal in the 1st place.

Cheers,

Richard
