Roberttan 5th Gear May 20, 2016 Share May 20, 2016 Thanks but from what I understand Kah Motor asked me to contact the agent. There was no follow up on the matter from them despite I initially raised the issue to them as I bought the types through them. I felt like I was left to my own perils after the sales done. to me this service provider (tire for your case? is not doing a Good service why should 1 left his his car not use because of 1 tire require to do some check . I strongly believe that they at least should provide you a temp tires to allow you to continue to use the car till the investigation is done just MHO ↡ Advertisement
Shiokadoo 1st Gear May 20, 2016 Share May 20, 2016 #Robertan, Thanks, I can't with you more. They should have at least look into the matter and try best solve my situation. I was just left to sort out with the agent instead. It just take one defective tyre and and your whole driving pleasure is spoilt. The "one-off" situation will just ruin the whole idea of having a comfortable and quiet ride. I hope Bridgestone looks into the matter and QC issue as this will definitely affect their sales and credibility. I also find no point of just replacing one tyre - two sets would be more appropriate for safety and well balanced tyres. I mean "I can't agree with you more"... This kind of issue is not just limited to tyres (as you had found out). Even for the entire car, assembled in which country matters. Yah yah, they would tell you that a Toyota is a Toyota and the quality standards would be the same. Don't believe it!!! If you remember, back those years where one can buy a Camry from Japan or from Thailand, the cost price is so much difference and of-course the quality will also be different. Like the saying goes, GOOD things don't come cheap, and CHEAP things don't come good....
Earthboy 4th Gear May 27, 2016 Share May 27, 2016 bro, this is only 1 user's negative experience. i have been on the GR100 clocking around 26000km, it is still as quiet and comfortable.i did rotation every 8k. the only thing is rolling resistant is a little bit not as good as when new. i will not hestiate to replace the same when it is due. Thanks for the tip. I've good experience with both GR80 and 90, so thought of getting the GR100 in near future....look like need to reconsider after your experience. Shiokadoo 1st Gear May 27, 2016 Share May 27, 2016 #Earthboy, thanks. The humming started after clocking +/- 20,000km of use (replaced GR-100 in Nov 2014 when the odo 130K/km). Quite recently (sometime in Apr 2016) another front tyre started to hum again. Now I have "stereo" hums in the front and back. Don't take me wrong, I liked both the GR-80s & 90s, I fact I had replaced 2 sets of GR-90 without any issues. This particular GR-100 is giving me a headache. #kennytansk's comments make sense too! November 2014...1.5 years already, probably tires are already hardened, contributing to the "wong wong" sound. About time to change, but probably can still tahan for another six months. I am quiet sure this gr100 not responsible for the noise. please check other parts that causing the noise or the part that cause the gr100 to wear abnormally became noisy .

Shiokadoo 1st Gear May 29, 2016 Share May 29, 2016 The tyre size is 205 / 55R / 16 (91V), as mentioned earlier. Same specs as my two earlier GR-80 & 90. In fact I had both the front wheel bearing replaced thinking it was the cause but the humming still persists. When I rotate the tyres to the back, the humming noise could now be heard on the rear. I can only conclude that the tyre was giving problem and not the bearing. Sadly, I can hear slight humming noise coming from the front tyres now. The humming gets louder when I travel at speed around 90km/hr. Obviously the noise gets even louder while driving at night.

Your driving pattern, a lot of left turns especially when the tyres are cold? What are the tyre pressures? Perhaps uneven tyre wear could cause that and since it is usually the right side. Blueray Hypersonic May 29, 2016 Share May 29, 2016 Thanks for sharing. I am also planning to change my tyre probably end of the year, just wondering if this is a " one off " incident ? any other bro using GR100 have similar bad experience ? have used GR80, RE001, now on RE002. quite happy with them.

Shiokadoo 1st Gear May 30, 2016 Share May 30, 2016 Thanks for sharing your thoughts too. I also checked my tyre pressure regularly and send for periodical servicing at Kah Motors. I alway make sure the pressure is at the recommended back pressure of 220psi. I encounter the humming sound whenever my speed hit 90km/hr. At low speed of about 30km/hr the noise is minimial. Yes, good to check tyre pressure regularly. Humming sound at 90 km/hr which is our routine highway cruising speed is really no joke - understand your frustration! If this happen to me, would consider visiting a dedicated tyre shop (instead of Kah Motor or other AD - authorised distributor) to do a proper high speed balancing and rotation kiv computerised alignment. Guess you have done the above. Also try to google and find out overseas forums whether other drivers have similar issues. If there is, perhaps may just bite the bullet and change the tyres early to other brands (since u have use it for more than a year already...) Hope the GR100 still generally comfy and provide good grip for both wet and dry condition, ↡ Advertisement
