PM has plenty white hairs compared to George Yeo though GY has little hairs. [:p]

sign of him forcing thought probably.

nothing derogatory fr me,just that there are rooms for improvement for him.

in the areas of ideology, religion, compromise to name a few.

but it's just my opinion.

and i have no objection to him dyeing his hairs. [:p]

In America, land of the free, you have conservative and liberal newspapers (or broadcasters) that can, at times, be very biased in their reporting or opinion piece, but you can read both to get a balanced view or you can opt to read the paper closest to your political inclination/ taste (voluntary). Here we have a few papers (in different languages and catering to different markets) but one view (even Malaysia is ranked higher than us), the brainwashing can be so subtle and is highly effective after a while, hence I come to MCF (knowing it is also owned by SPH), read Online Citizen and a few other blogs to balance out the "1" view.

I think there is room for more press freedom, more views, more thinking and more discussions. Attempt to regulate the internet will ultimately fail, unless they shut down all forums and blogs.

150th in ranking nia! There are otherwise better known as 154th not for nothing!!! Their actual target is to drop further to below 154th to achieve a better balance view! [sly]

My advice is, take everything you read or see in the press with a pinch of salt. It helps to seek out alternative perspectives and opinions, but ultimately each individual must actively collate these various info (whether from pro or anti camp) and make their own informed decision.

This is true. And in writing, it is easy to stir emotions and get people to narrowly focus on points which supports the writer's agenda.

Confirmation bias plays a part too (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias).

actually I read the article on this same interview of PM on Straits Times and the way it is written is completely in different light from this.

basically say press freedom isn't same as responsible and reliable press. and the one we have got in Singapore are responsible and reliable.

responsible to who?

I wouldn't believe those countries that are ranked high also don't necessarily mean they have irresponsible and unreliable press. a bit of trying to divert our attention

which anonymous prick "dislike" my comment yet rebuttal was not even addressing my point and had the courage to hide behind "anonymity" [hur]

Confirmation bias plays a part too (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias).

bias is everywhere and not just in press. where to draw the line where is the appropriate place to arrest the bias? or do we simply believe govt has the most unbiased and common view that they are allowed to dictate what to be reported?

in a high literate and well-read country like Singapore, it would be better to let its constituents read everything and let them form their own opinion. the existence of trash articles in trs does not directly give power to the government to moderate and control the press. by the same reasoning, the existence of junk food around doesn't give government or parents the justification to control what people or their grown-up kids eat.

seems people who gives dislike here likes to be anon

he basically don't dare to stand by his point and his comments. because the default button for this function is his own nick and he bothered to change it back to anonymous. he bothered to spend some time to write and give me his reason for disagreeing but prefer the cloak of anonymity rather than an outright reply in the thread. don't stand by his point and identity, what more to expect people to take seriously his comment?

haha, I am frank to admit I am still cool. but I still like to show my disdain at a parasitic lowdown shot especially when my comments here garnered so many likes from other forumers. it seems I am disliked by this guy for bringing up the unbearable truth or for his green-eyed-monster streak?

Look at it this way, we should be happy that our PM knows what to give up and not chasing it blindly. I hope he will also give up other things including 6.9M. Haha..

I almost wanted to tell him, if I have the chance to do so, doesn't he feel shameful at the press being ranked very close to communist or dictatorial countries like Cuba, North Korea, China and Zimbabwe? The dragon prince is very good at play acting and acting blur. If the ranking comes up high at how rich our country is, he will blow the trumpet to say how good the PAP leadership is.
