Tell me don’t call grab if I have a lot of luggage.

Yes you can certainly file a complain with Grab. You book for a car, you didn't book for a commercial truck with goods. Neither does Grab has a policy that passengers are not allowed to bring luggages.

But when Grab makes even premium rides look cheapskate with their pricing, it's no surprise they attract this type of drivers.

Got a rude grab driver last week.

Tell me don’t call grab if I have a lot of luggage.

Fact is, his boot has two boxes in it and only can put one luggage.

Like this kind of driver can complain or not?

I don’t have such problem when Uber is around.

Can complain and the driver will get warning from Grab as the vehicle's luggage compartment are supposed to be empty so that the rider can put his/her luggage. However do take note this does not apply to Grabhitch, got luggage better indicate.

Used grabhitch that day twice.

First one, driver location keep being shown at bt panjang. Haha i called the driver, he said no lah, it happens sometimes.

2nd one, i in my block, but GPS position cannot locate, so driver goes to another block (it's just like A and B vs within the same estate).

I have to go find him when he arrived, GPS also cannot show the car's location ... we had to sms each other

Comparatively, the grab GPS has to buck up man. It's obviously inferior to Uber's

clear skies day, was damn hot and sunny.

It's definitely the app is not as good.

Not able to locate my position accurately when I'm indoors, sure any GPS can do that. Unable to show both cars location? Haha the best one is the 2nd one, the car has no GPS location. Only the fact that the guy sms me, then i know he's coming.

Regarding gps or rather Location, your phone has a Location service.

I think it's determined by gps and/or network a-gps.

On android, your setting should be using high accuracy ( gps + network )

However, my experience:

1. With Uber in 2017, I hardly encounter gps problem, can't recall much, if any.

2. 2018 before Uber shuts. I was toggling between Grab and Uber. I had quite a lot of Location problem, sometimes it's gps problem. My phone hardware has not changed, so I was thinking one of the app may be causing the problem.

When the gps problem occurs, rebooting the phone will fix it. Since gps satellites and signal doesn't get "fixed" by my phone rebooting, the problem must be coming from my phone.

3. With Uber demise and now running solely on Grab, things has stabilize more. But occasionally when I press "I Arrived" on my Grab app, it would ask me "Are you sure ?"

So yeah, I think Grab app might have some problem with phone Location.

It might also be their server as well.

There are always such drivers around, just like having rude self entitled riders around. PH cars suppose to have space for luggages, at the minimum 2 cabin size luggages. If got more, or those large ones, its better to indicate the numbers and sizes in your note so the driver can be prepared. I ever taken a family of 4 with 2 large, 2 cabin size luggages. Mine car can only fit 2 large and 1 cabin size lug. So the rider put one one their lap, lol, since they don't want to cancel to change XL car. I'm fine, as long as they are happy.

if they get one they can't drive PHV, so we will see 23,000 PHV on the road?   [sweatdrop]  [sweatdrop]

23,000 private-hire drivers yet to obtain vocational licence a week before deadline
22 Jun 2018 11:05AM (Updated: 22 Jun 2018 03:14PM)

SINGAPORE: A total of 23,000 private-hire drivers have yet to obtain their vocational licence with just one week to go before the deadline, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Friday (Jun 22).

Those who fail to obtain the Private Hire Car Driver's Vocational Licence (PDVL) by Jun 30 will not be allowed to provide ride-hailing services after that date, LTA said.

These drivers currently hold an Approval-to-Drive (ATD) concession, which allows them to provide ride-hailing services until Jun 30. They are among 42,900 private-hire drivers who applied for the PDVL before Jul 1 last year, and who received the ATD concession and were given at least one year to obtain a PDVL.

LTA said it has issued several reminders since the beginning of this year to these drivers.

To facilitate applications for PDVL training and testing slots, LTA said it appointed ComfortDelGro Taxi as a new training provider, and the Employment and Employability Institute as a new test centre, in December last year.

This is on top of the existing training and test centre at the Singapore Taxi Academy.

LTA said about 19,900 ATD concession holders have attended and passed the test so far.

“As at Jun 17, 2018, more than four in five of the remaining 23,000 ATD concession holders have not registered to sit for the test even once, despite reminders from the Land Transport Authority, Grab and the National Private Hire Vehicles Association, to do so," LTA said.

"More than nine in 10 of these ATD concession holders who have not attempted the test a single time, have also not attended the PDVL training."

ATD concession holders who have not obtained their PDVL, but wish to continue providing ride-hailing services after Jun 30, will need to reapply for the PDVL at a cost of S$40.

ATD concession holders who have registered for the course and test before Jun 30, but have been scheduled for the tests in early July, need not reapply. These drivers will be allowed to provide ride-hailing services once they obtain the PDVL, LTA said.

PDVL TRAINING AND TEST

Since the implementation of the PDVL, around 70 per cent of applicants who took the test have passed, LTA said.

“The provision of chauffeured service puts drivers in contact with a wide range of commuters every day. Hence, private-hire and taxi drivers must be able to speak simple English to communicate effectively with all commuters – both Singaporeans and tourists.

"Drivers must also be able to read English, so that they can navigate roads and buildings, the names of which are primarily in English."

Drivers who require help with improving their command of English are encouraged to sign up for the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications Workplace Literacy Program or an equivalent.

LTA said that it also constantly reviews the course and test curriculum content to make sure that they are updated and relevant.

Drivers who provide ride-hailing services without a valid vocational licence face a fine of up to S$1,000 and up to three months' jail. Repeat offenders face a fine of up to S$2,000 and up to six months' jail.

Approximately,

20,000 passed.

20% of remaining 23,000 interested. The rest are just dropping out.

30% interested took course, but failed exam.

Most likely they fail paper 2, where the stupid memorization of fines and demerits pts fines kill them.

So I'd guess, the final figure is about 25k to 28k ph driver in addition to taxi drivers.

Hey, that's too many drivers already. [laugh]

23,000 PHV drivers might be those not that serious about PHV as a career. After the demise of Uber and lost of incentives, they all decided to switch back to Taxi or find other source of income.

Maybe it apply to those who rented car to be PHV driver. I have a friend who drive grabhitch using his own car got so addicted on the income that he earned per month until he converted his car to PHV so that can take even more rides.
