Invigorated Supercharged September 18, 2017 Share September 18, 2017 But he drives for grab/uber can earn around $9000, this is really high income sia.Actually if u deduct all the comms, expenses and taxes, maybe left about 3-4k or so if it's 9k gross. Unless you say it's nett nett 9k. then soon u can see inflation up faster than your pay jump.
Yewheng Twincharged September 18, 2017 Share September 18, 2017 (edited) But he drives for grab/uber can earn around $9000, this is really high income sia. 9k is before car rental, petrol and etc. After deduct off should be around 5plus to 6plus k. Actually if u deduct all the comms, expenses and taxes, maybe left about 3-4k or so if it's 9k gross. Unless you say it's nett nett 9k. then soon u can see inflation up faster than your pay jump. 9k after deducting, petrol, car rental etc, will get around 5plus to 6plus k, depending whether is it high 9k or low 9k. ( I believe it will be more likely to be in low 9k range, as I drive 12hrs a day including incentives and etc total earnings is about 7kplus close to 8k, so if he drive 14hrs a day figure should be around there low 9k) One thing bad about grab and Uber driver is that the tax is based on net earnings and we will not be able to use car rental and petrol as deductible. Imagine every month car rental 2kplus, petrol 800plus. 12 months is actually a lot.. Around 30plus k. Those are non deductible.. Vratenza Supersonic September 18, 2017 Share September 18, 2017 (edited) Difference is one can siam one cannot siam. Whether the taxi driver pay or not is up to personal integrity when you have large amount of untraceable/trackable cash income daily. I will not be surprise that most taxi drivers just declare just below the minimum taxable amount. Meals, drinks, ciggies, casino entry fees are all part of their "expenses" before tax..... When IRAS ask (if they do), just act blur..."huh, you mean i cannot deduct these as expense before tax? SORRY! I will not do it again!" So far i have not seen taxi drivers hulled to court for tax evasion. They all saints? So drive taxi no need pay income tax compared to Phv? Rubbish talk of the month. Yewheng Twincharged September 18, 2017 Share September 18, 2017 Do you mean you know the 50 year old guy in the report? No. I don't know ow the 50 yr old guy in the report. But I drive full time uber, so I roughly will know, if he say 9k. 9k means haven't deduct car rental and petrol and etc. Coz it is impossible to hit 9k after deducting car rent and petrol unless the guy drive 20hrs a day. Vratenza Supersonic September 18, 2017 Share September 18, 2017 Hmmm... Why would he proudly declare 9k before expense for national news? Slap face become fatty? I would have thought most people in that situation will try to give a lower number to highlight his plight ie. Already not earning enough still want to tax me? No. I don't know ow the 50 yr old guy in the report. If 9k is after, he must be earning 11k in fares. Not that I doubt him as it's possible to earn that if you drive longer hours, but rather the health drain on a 50 year old. Sustainable? And if one questions the article, why would one give up a 9k job after Comms, or 5-6k nett pay just because of taxes and go drive taxi instead? No name no head no tail. Drive taxi, taxi rental and petrol is deductible and works out to be a lot.The difference of income tax between 90k annual income (no deduct car rent and petrol vs 50plus k ( after deducting car rental and petrol). So well.. Edited September 18, 2017 by Yewheng

So let them be.. This should be the more realistic figure, this figure includes incentives given by Uber. By the way last month I did not drive everyday so figure is around 1.4 to 1.5k plus. If drive everyday for 12hrs 1wk with 1/2 day rest per wk should be able to hit 1.9 to 2plus k after include incentives given by Uber. (these figure haven't deduct car rental and petrol, if drive own car also need to consider car maintenance, insurance and every month Servicing, every 4 months change Tyre, those cost can work out to be quite a lot.) Nothingtodo 1st Gear September 18, 2017 Share September 18, 2017 (edited) No figures to show but just talked 9k is talk for the sake of talking. Net off everything comes to between 5 and 7 k is the real figures depending on how long a PHD goes online. Earning before deduction of new bird to old bird PHD goes from $18 to $35 an hr, including incentives. Use this figure multiply by hr and one gets the gross figures. This is a no Brainer. Taxi earns around there too, so no need to big Canon. Oh yes, it hurts when truth are revealed. That's life. Mustank Hypersonic September 19, 2017 Share September 19, 2017 50 yr old still very shocked ? He thinks no need to pay tax when you're making money. Now, IRAS should go clamped down on taxi drivers.
