Visited Darwin and Alice Spring in June 2015. Took the Stuart Highway from Darwin to Alice Spring. Some part of Stuart highway has open speed limit. [sly]

The whole journey from Darwin to Alice Spring and back Darwin is 5438km. I did it in 12 days! It was an awesome experience.

But now got speed limit... Glad you did your road trip during 2015.

Speed limits[edit]

There was no absolute speed limit in the Northern Territory before 1 January 2007 but maximum speed limits are now posted on some road sections. Drivers, previously, were simply required to drive at a safe speed to suit the conditions. Thus, the Northern Territory section of the Stuart Highway had no speed limits at all.[23] The Northern Territory traffic laws were updated from 1 January 2007 to be similar to the rest of Australia. This included placing a speed limit on all roads (130 km/h or 81 mph on major highways such as the Stuart Highway) and significantly increasing penalties for speeding.[24][25]

The South Australian Section is signposted as 110 km/h (68 mph) outside built-up regions, between Port Augusta and the Northern Territory border.

In October 2013 the NT Government announced a trial period of reverting to an open speed limit on the 200 km (120 mi) stretch between Alice Springs and Barrow Creek, beginning 1 February 2014.[26][27] In September 2015, following the conclusion of the trial, a 276 km (171 mi) stretch of the highway had its speed limits permamently derestricted.[28]

As of November 2016, a speed limit has been reinstated, with the maximum speed now being 130 km/h (81 mph)[29]

The near new 2.5L Toyota Camry max out at 210km/h. Kinda disappointing performance for a 2.5L. The coolant temp of the car remains constant throughout despite the hard driving.

U are wrong bro. OZ is very strict on their speed limits. Only a small stretch on the Stuart highway has open speed limit and sad to say open speed limit in Australia is history.[bigcry]

My France-Belgium-Germany trip in May 2016. I rented a 2016 BMW 318d, 150bhp, 8 speed ZF autobox. I was given a almost new car with only 131km on the clock. Love that new car smell. The car drives pretty awesome but would be better if its a 6-speed manual. I did a hard break-in on the Germany Autobahn. It max out at just under 230km/h on the German Autobahn. Ended my 2weeks EU trip with 3798km on the dial.

There are way too many places and photos I've visited during this trip. Since this is a car forum, I shall share anything related to cars. Next would be VW museum and  Autostadt at Wolfsburg Germany. Covering more than 28 hectares, the autostadt offers many opportunities to experience Volkswagen Group brands in special pavilions, or discover exhibitions focusing on sustainability and other themes. Explore the ZeitHaus museum and glass CarTowers, or stroll through the beautiful park and lagoon landscape. This section introduces the different places waiting to be discovered at the Autostadt.

Should have paid more and drive a Falcon or Commodore or Aurion.

V6 engines are great for long distance driving.
