Viper76 2nd Gear January 30, 2017 Share January 30, 2017 yes better upgrade car to Mercedes C Class... A case in point: During times of high COE, you will see buyers gravitate towards the budget luxury conti cars from Merc, BMW and Audi. Even Corolla's reliability can't save it then because it becomes too costly. And during that time, the Yen was really high, so the price jump to a smaller basic Conti car isn't that great. Witness the success of the VW Golf / Jetta during the 2010 to 2014 heyday. If not for the DSG fiasco, they may be still in the top five best selling models. When you step into a Golf, A3 or A180, you are greeted by a waft of safety features, soft touch materials, and plenty of gadgets. You step back into a Corolla and you know that the cars are a quite different. But those who are practical and less inclined to want to worry about parts and servicing costs, resale, etc will still go back to their beloved Corolla. However if the price gap gets smaller, then the "Why Not" question will pop up and soon the people will leave Borneo's showrooms and knock on the doors of Audi / VW / BMW and Merc.. ↡ Advertisement
inlinesix Hypersonic January 30, 2017 Share January 30, 2017 Toyota Inc, Japan should reconsider their sales strategy of selling MIT and MII ASEAN car models in Singapore! Singapore is not anothe third-world SEA country ... although geographically, we're right in the centre of that region. Our passenger car sales market may be relatively small and over-controlled, but the customer base is much more sophisticated than those in SEA and IndoChina ... with much higher expectations on performance and quality - spoilt by choice with the numerous conti alternatives available here. I wonder ... if BM had continued to sell only JDM Toyota models in SG all this while, and had not lost a significant portion of Toyota sales to the PIs, would they have ended in their current business quagmire? Singapore consumer is the best to con. Our neighbour already moves to 1.8L & 2L Altis. We are still at 1.6L. For German car, our market is even worse. Our CLA starts from 180. Malaysia starts from 200. Are you sure we have a more sophisticated market? JDM is for Japan only. How to export? Take the top spec of Altis vs Axio. Got fight or not????? Maxus-MIFA9 Supersonic January 31, 2017 Share January 31, 2017 Bro Where did you get that info? Leng Kee is going to be very crowded... You still have Pandan workshop. Vinceng Turbocharged January 31, 2017 Share January 31, 2017 You still have Pandan workshop. Newsletter from BM stated that Sin Ming workshop to be closed and from my SE that Ubi in process of closing. Absurd, Ridiculous. Never heard of a no. 1 car seller downsizing on not one, but two service centres. Toyota car owners can expect long waiting time for service booking. Looks like Borneo Motors, Toyota is going the Nokia way, and Kia and Hyundai are going to be the next Samsung
t0y0ta Supercharged January 31, 2017 Share January 31, 2017 Could it be they are already going to lose the distributorship of toyota so now carry out "scorched earth" policy to sabotage the brand before the next guy take over.

merc280v6 6th Gear January 31, 2017 Share January 31, 2017 (edited) Bottom line, BM had lost the market share of Toyota sales in SG - due to Toyota Inc Japan's insistence to bring in mainly the MIT and MII ASEAN car models here. The fact that Toyota sold more cars than any other brand here in FY2016, was due mainly from the not-insignificant numbers of Lexus and PI JDM Toyotas sold here. This is likely the key driver for a major re-think, for Toyota Inc to tweak their business model here. Who knows? They may follow the steps that VW AG and Daimler & Benz AG had taken previously! Nlatio Turbocharged January 31, 2017 Share January 31, 2017 Seriously, if go SC need to queue until Christmas, then better ask BM sell the car cheaper without servicing.... we go outside workshop do it ourself better...good for them as they save cost, good for outside workshop and good for us if we can buy it cheaper!!!!
Vratenza Supersonic January 31, 2017 Share January 31, 2017 Wait long long.... BM service and parts been known to have very sharp cleaver... Especially for the L brand when the parts are essentially shared Toyota parts with same parts numbers. Consolidating the service centres is just to sharpen this cleaver even more only. Datsun366 Turbocharged January 31, 2017 Share January 31, 2017 what most sane people want is peace of mind. So, what does KS as in over compensation factor into this? I agree that BM service centers have been not so samurai standards. This is a fact, but, you have to understand the Japanese culture and history. Toyota is a keireitsu modeling to become zaibatsu. Old style honor and integrity is central. For 'barbarians' to insinuate / proof of dishonor means wearing white and poem time. Certain facts would shame Toyota, the Japanese have this thing of self Phalangeal removal. So.... Read the recent choice of advertisement theme.... can get megastar to advertise 'National' brand....
