At 160k mileage, TCM charged my Sunny $1152 for -

Renew all belting - NPMP renew pulley assy

Renew both rear wheel cyclinder

Renew water pump assy, pressure test system

Replace all shock absorbers and frt rubber bound

Is price ok?

If this is price for job done at TCM then seems like a good price.

Strange but looks like very cheap leh.

When you inspect the belt, don't just look at outside for frays, etc.

You also need to check the "teeth" inside.

I had one case where, all the "teeth" was gone, stripped off the belt.

Luckily, it didn't cause further damage to the engine.

WOW use till teeth gone then belt sure slipping n timing sure run out till valves hit pistons.[sweatdrop]

Once I see belt start to fray on edges I wil change.

i still service at tan chong even though its cheaper outside simply because in the event of some cockup, at least TC is big enough that they will (or should) handle it responsibly.

just serviced my car a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised that they touched up a lot of the scratches on the body without my asking. (that's one of the main reasons i still go back to them ...)

Maybe ty hv been causing scratches on yr car all these years?

U sud hv asked TCM for a complete re-spray on their account. Hahahaha. [sly]

I m driving Sunny and was using Tan Chong during warranty period, usually they will call after 1 to 2 hrs after i left my car there and tellme i must change this and that , from air-con filter ,to water leaking problem etc. and i always replied :"NO !" But i will keep a list till its long enough and I'll drive to a honest mechanic to let him check and was told all those are bulls**t and i need not change a thing , i drive on for another 4 yrs and even till now i didnt have to change anything that Tan Chong had asked me to 6 to 7 yrs ago.

This is a con that many WS wil do. Ask u change this n that even though its not necessary. U lucky ty never sabo yr car when u say "NO".

Usually when ty got plenty of shocks just ordered in, ty wil tell most customers ty need to change shocks so ty can clear stocks n make more money.

Sent for servicing. Aircon not cold. Tan Chong recommended a cocktail of parts replacement totaling $4,750 excl GST.

Got a 2nd option at reputable workshop specialised in Jap Cars. Checked. All working condition except for aircon clutch burnt. Had it replaced for a mere $100+.

Scary. Repair costs machiam like continental car. Items that are in Working condition also asked to replace.

you mean to say Tan Chong LIED that

1. bushes cracked

2. radiator leaked

3. engine mountings worn ???

no doubt car can still go on without changing, but i suggest you get the radiator and pipings checked. in case of overheating.

@Othello,

Everything checked at reputable outside workshop. All in working condition.

Agent usually request parts replacement as "preventitive measure", though it is not absolutely necessary.

bro, working condition doesn't mean its' not broken/faulty.

Anyway, TC and i guess all other ADs are taking the change everything route. why you may ask ?

For eg, if you change this part and next week another linked part fail, then how ?

Of cos its more economical just changing what its broken. But in some circumstances, it might be better to change out like -->

1. just renewed COE

2. car at 6th year but mileage already high, > 130k km

Maybe you should also ask TC whether you should replace the car instead
