Roh96 6th Gear March 12, 2014 Share March 12, 2014 I have to assure somehow the phone(s) survived and till now it can't be confirmed the plane crashed. I know it is hard to convince ppl at times. Seriously, if using ringtone is possible to locate the plane, it would not have taken 10 countries with over 40 ships and 100 planes for the SAR effort. ↡ Advertisement
Yeshe Turbocharged March 12, 2014 Share March 12, 2014 (edited) Unless the Chinese relatives are hallucinating, but if this is true that they got ringtone, they shd try to search by this way too. I know China cellphones if the user turn off, there will be a message : "The number you dial has been Power Off". but if the phone is auto roaming, the ring tone or message will be be different depends on which mobile operator in which country is covering it Edited March 12, 2014 by Yeshe
The_Bear Turbocharged March 12, 2014 Share March 12, 2014 I dunno but if phones are on the network, they can be traced, no? This one doesn't make sense.
Jman888 Moderator March 12, 2014 Share March 12, 2014 I have to assure somehow the phone(s) survived and till now it can't be confirmed the plane crashed. If phone rings, it means the location of that phone is not in the sea. My mind is telling me : a. Plane exploded in mid air, many cellphones fell and landed on the soft cushion of fishing boats nets in vibration mode... b. Plane hijacked and landed in some remote place and all cellphones confiscated and thrown into a box. c. Plane crashed into sea, cellphone in Luggages and floating in sea, not discovered yet... a is most likely... b is not likely, the hijacker not stupid to leave the phone one. c also less likely as most will turn their phone off in plane or in flight mode, by now battery should have died. I dunno but if phones are on the network, they can be traced, no? This one doesn't make sense. iphone got "find my phone"
Roh96 6th Gear March 12, 2014 Share March 12, 2014 they are trying to imply that if the phone can ring, the plane could have landed instead of crashed I'm not trying to burst the bubble of hope. U know and I know the possible outcome by now.
Hiphiphoray 6th Gear March 12, 2014 Share March 12, 2014 As long as the sim card is inside the phone, it can traced. Even when the battery is flat I dunno but if phones are on the network, they can be traced, no? This one doesn't make sense.

If you can call a person's phone, you can identify the location of that phone. Not rocket science lah. I don't expect any survivors, but find the plane for closure. Roh96 6th Gear March 12, 2014 Share March 12, 2014 I dunno but if phones are on the network, they can be traced, no? This one doesn't make sense. Technically it can. The operator is able to trace the location of the phone from the last connection established.

comegetme 2nd Gear March 12, 2014 Share March 12, 2014 i am a little confused. Is the last point of contact over the straits of malacca or between Malaysia and Vietnam???

Roh96 6th Gear March 12, 2014 Share March 12, 2014 Are you sure about this ? The only source of power in a phone with a dead battery pack is the internal battery that runs the digital clock... Once the main battery is out of power, it is not possible to trace liao, be it with or without SIM. Importance is the phone ability to cam onto any GSM network. Koko 4th Gear March 12, 2014 Share March 12, 2014 Ask yourself, your own mobile phone can last 4-5 days or not? Frankly speaking, when i go oversea, my Iphone can last at maximum 6 days... cos when i go oversea, i have a habit of switch it to 2g only... and turn on wifi when it is available. The only source of power in a phone with a dead battery pack is the internal battery that runs the digital clock... haha same thoughts as you........no battery how to have signal........sim card is just a chip with information inside it. surely no one expects it can give out signals with no power? Hiphiphoray 6th Gear March 12, 2014 Share March 12, 2014 Of course they can. Then u think how the police arrest ppl in hiding? Whether its on or off doesnt matter. But there must be coverage lar. But out at sea cant trace. Are you sure about this ? The only source of power in a phone with a dead battery pack is the internal battery that runs the digital clock... Acemundo Supercharged March 12, 2014 Share March 12, 2014 i am a little confused. Is the last point of contact over the straits of malacca or between Malaysia and Vietnam??? doesn't really matter........ the phone must be on and communicating to base station at this supposed last point of contact. most passengers would have switched off their phone when the plane is taking off. even if there are the odd few who didn't do so, base stations are not located high in the air to communicate with the phone. unless you telling me the phone was on when it crashes onto a land where there are base stations. but if indeed crash at such a place, the plane would have already been found by now. ↡ Advertisement
