From the culture of Singapore, especially an organisation that is indirectly owned by the ruling party, we all know where they will put the costs of paying FB to very well... end of the day, double suffer...

AVA+MOM will come out say you must pay the pigeon for working for you.

cannot exceed 44hrs/week otherwise must give extra nuts. DAMN!

If these pap related clowns think they can rule the world with their lim peh kah lee gong attitude

They are very wrong

They think they clever? The world is much more cunning than them

Remember the 50% car down payment? Remember how the motor car industry circumvent that rule blatantly?

Put yourself in Facebook shoes, the owner of whatsapp

If they pay ransom to one tiny telco, wouldn't the rest of the world's telco follow suit

Would facebook want that

No, they will purposely snub stinktel to warn off any other telcos

Honestly, I would love to see stinktel fall into the grave that it dug for itself

My only wish is everything merged into one - telepathy.

No devices to buy, no subscriptions to pay.

Technology merging is inevitable.

Voice, data, text and even video is going to merge.

And they all go into a data stream, be it fibre, cable, wireless or cellular.

Service provider can either innovate, jump on the bandwagon first or kpkb to authorities to protect them.

When you do the last, you're anti-competition.

Imagine a new video service come along and provide high QOS, streaming HD video for free or sells by advert. What does sinktel and sh do ?

Complain, block service or charge people when they are already selling bandwidth ?

This is an interesting discussion. I can see from ISPs' POV, simple I want more money and I'm not getting any money from whatsapp, wechat etc.

First, they don't use ISP servers to host because they have their own, except they may have subscript to a single ISP for using the bandwidth so whatsapp is already paying for bandwidth.

ISP or rather those in mobile / internet biz will lose on their SMS and MMS subscriptions. This is what they are worried about not the use of their bandwidth, it is just a silly excuse to charge whatsapp.

If people still use whatsapp, nobody will exceed the "free" SMSes given to them then it would not be profitable for them to keep the service. Just imagine, paying say $39 per month with 200 "free" SMSes,, 1GB of data (4G). If whatsapp data is only say about 2kb per mesg, it would be almost equivalent to 500,000 over "free" SMSes... comparing to their 1 excess SMS cost $0.0535 they would have lost $26,750 per subscribers, of course the ISP will be "red-eyes"... hahaaa

This is still ridiculous. It is like SingPost want to charge anyone that uses e-mail..

Network subscriptions are cheaper or more affordable around the world but Singtel want to make it more expensive?

If $ is their concern, they should think of how to provide better service and gain more customers rather than being a b!tch going around trying to add unnecssary "tax" to consumers..

It is not like the at present state their company is in financial fix.. all they want is more money and they chose to do it the unethical way..

Might as well start to charge corporates extra fees when they uses IP telephony. Since that took away their piece of oversea calls charges..

if bandwidth traffic is like road traffic, then charge COE and ERP, user need to purchase the apps at $100 and renew every years, if whatsapp data exceed 500mb per month, they will charge $5 for addition 100mb :D

then telco around the world will charge whatsapp a fee base on nunber of users in that country.

If SiCktell wants to put their finger into Chat Apps, go buy their stocks lor... Donch Listurb and increase fees like our PTOs. Do some business strategies to creat revenue, don't ask your loyal customers to pay for your KPI.

Haiz but which company does want more profit? If companies have the sense of social responsibilities, would they have withdrawn from a country if their profit dips?

Similarly, just like some companies we know, a drop in profit of 40% starts to increase price though they are providing a "public" service. The point they see a dip in profit, they do something "stupid" trying to recover the "lost" so their bonus will be fatter.

Well, they had already charged a hefty subscriptions for the fixed IP and they do charge for VOIP unless you're talking about Skype which offers free... That's why they need to start charging Skype else no one would use their VOIP service.

I believe, the best facebook can get back to singtel is to charge them super sky high fees for using their platform for advertising.

or probably "unknowingly" bring down stinktel fb page with some lame reasons.

If SiCktell wants to put their finger into Chat Apps, go buy their stocks lor... Donch Listurb and increase fees like our PTOs. Do some business strategies to creat revenue, don't ask your loyal customers to pay for your KPI.

See la... who set example one!!! soon we will see some ministars come out say stinktel dying liao.. must inject money if not all our telephone cannot call..

then uses cable tie to kaysiao fix they cabling??

i'm refering to corporates that uses the subscribed internet line for VOIP services.. rather than corporate that subscribed VOIP service from stinktel..

well, it is not like we expect stinktel to do charities or donations with their profit. but coming up with such move, trying to dominate communication, will only kill themselves..

Might as well ask SingTel to sell only the basic phone, Calls & SMS only ..... [furious]

I know of many old people who cannot upgrade their phone because there is no more plan which is for calls and sms only.

Now all postpaid plans are with data which is useless to them, a lot of them has switch to prepaid line.

And there are also many line which are on 12G data that cannot upgrade for a new phone, once upgrade line - data will be 2G.

They are good in shifting the goal post which only benefit themselves and don't care about loyal customers.

for Singtel, Redpac plan tap on another user plan, no data, no caller ID only $10 per month.

I'm very unhappy with this news.

Its like LTA wants to Up ERP Charges, SMRT and SBS want to Increase the fares, Taxi companies wants to Up Step Up fares going to Orchard Road, Because Tangs outlet Krispy Kreme Donuts are doing extremely well and these Transport regulator and companies want get Profit from commuters because of this.
