Quantum 5th Gear February 28, 2014 Author Share February 28, 2014 (edited) proton preve actually is quite reasonable mid-size sedan, 1.6L TC engine produced 138bhp/205Nm, performance wise even better than K3, elantra, altis, civic, but price just 119k, imagine if it's under honda/toyota badge, what is situation? Perdana ride quite stable in 130km/h but the car about to fall off haha maybe lack maintenance Saga and waja impression not so good but good thing about proton is the aircon very cold

Solar Turbocharged March 2, 2014 Share March 2, 2014 (edited) Malaysian cars need a long long time before they can think of becoming 'popular' in sg imo.. My old man owned a proton saga before.. horrendous nightmare. Without reason things fell off, like side mirror.. and it rusted in just a few years. Then years back I rented a fairly new wira in langkawi. Felt so much improved vs the saga experience. Just like some brands like Lada and Skoda.. Not just the quality need to improve, they also need brave people to give it a second chance..and not getting disappointed and scared off again. Jamomatt 2nd Gear March 2, 2014 Share March 2, 2014 My mom used to have a proton so I've driven a few times before. Not getting one anymore is not about saving face. It is about valuing our own lives. Not saying drive Proton sure die. But the car quality... Some things no matter how small the chance, not worth the risk for a little savings. Many of my MY friends when first started out working (after graduated), they had to buy Proton or Perdoua. Now job is stable and higher income, all change to Japanese cars. Malaysians used to buy proton because it is cheaper, relative to foreign vehicle imports of equivalent makes, which can attract aggregated import/excise/sales tax of more than 100%. Now due to free trade agreements, must reduce these add-on taxes, so even Malaysians are not buying much proton these days, why should Singaporeans be buying proton? Without these tax distortions, proton really CMI in international market, not as cheap as some of the low end producers , technology cannot catch up with conti, Jap, even the copy-cat Korean, it is not even reliable.... protion without protection habis long time ago. It should be for sales soon because Najib is broke and they know they can't do it alone without draining the country's limited resources just for a small piece of national pride. National pride also has a price one. LOL...
azlan96 1st Gear March 6, 2014 Share March 6, 2014 I bought a Proton Suprima S over the Vios at RM80K simply because the Proton has cruise control, 6 airbag, 5 star ANCAP, ESP, Lotus Handling, LED DRL, turbocharged engine, automatic headlights and wipers. C segment bigger car compared to Vios B segment, comes standard with paddle shifters and reverse camera. What Vios has to offer?

Doing the math, abolishing excise duty would for instance reduce the price of a small sedan (say a Toyota Vios) by about 38.9%; for a full size executive sedan (say an S-class Mercedes Benz), by about 46.6%. Such reductions would be a huge boon for lower and middle income families. http://econsmalaysia.blogspot.sg/2013/06/how-much-would-car-prices-come-down-if.html
adam5 1st Gear July 23, 2014 Share July 23, 2014 With the COE so high who is buying cheap cars. Look at your carpark and count cheap car as compared to Honda Accord, Mercs, BMW, Lexus etc. It is common sense to buy cars worthy of the high cost of COE. ↡ Advertisement
