Let’s take an objective view.

The crime cases of Singapore in 2013 was 29,668 according to http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/singapore/story/total-number-crime-cases-singapore-30-year-low-2013-police-statistics-

Singapore’s population in June 2013 was 5.4 Mil according to http://population.sg/population-in-brief/2013/files/population-in-brief-2013.pdf

i.e. Singapore crime rate was 29668 / 5.4 mil = 0.00549 per person

Johor’s population in 2012 was 3.4 mil, according to http://www.statistics.gov.my/portal/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=473&Itemid=111&lang=en&negeri=Johorit .

With 17,105 crime occurrence as per the police chief, the crime rate was 17,105/3.4 mil = 0.00503 per person

So, the fact is, Johor is slightly safer than Singapore.

You just ask any Johorians if they have ever been robbed before and you would be surprised to note that many of them have. Next question is have they reported the crime. Most of them would say NO, because its just a waste of time. Unless the crime is serious, it just gets filed to the wastepaper basket cabinet. Polis don't have the resources to chase down the so called petty crimes.

n SG you ask same question, "Have you ever been robbed before".".Wahliew Choy! Choy" " But have you ever made police report? " Yes Yes! Many times! My neighbour very noisy you know! Bath also sing loudly in shower. Disturb my boiboi studying for Chinese exam, if he cannot go Uni how HOW? I also make a police report about my car got scratches on roof cos there are so many cats in my neighbourhood , then they sit on my car and when I shoo them their claws are too long! Why Govt never cut their claws?..My car more very expensive you know!... Also another time this car block my path for 10 mins at MSCP cos he drop off things..I horn him, he show me middle finger..I recorded everything and send to stomp.. Also there is this time the classmate of my daughter in childcare push her......

The number of sinkies entering to Malaysia daily as compare with their populations. Sinkies make up of about 0.05%.

So what he (Johore police chief) said was correct afterall. The robber don't target sinkies more by looking at ratio satistic .... [sly]

i thought police nowadays classify many reports as non criminal? eg bashing people up for no reason.

so actually SG's crimte rate should be higher.

Yes, let's be objective. The statistics you just crunched only returns the reported crime/unit population only. To move towards a comparison of which side of the causeway is safer, we'd also need to know if

1. Crime that happens in both Singapore and Johor to be equally likely/unlikely to be followed through with a police report. In short, no report=>no crime (statistic). My personal opinion is that it is less "likely to report crime' in Johor (why bother?)

2. The success rate of SOLVING the crimes? (What the point of having a 10% lower 'report' rate if the 'solve' rate is 2x worse off (hypotheitical argument))

In short, you cannot conclude that Johor is a safer place based on reported crime/unit population with knowing the answer to the above 2 questions.

THAT's being objective.

Yeah, it's so safe that you have known incident like the one below??? [shakehead]

Therefore, to folks who intend to visit Malaysia, NEVER TAKE SAFETY FOR GRANTED! The guy in the incident apparently did all he could yet seemed to have difficulties overcoming the glaring injustice. [hur] The audacity of the thugs to pick on a car packed with a whole family? [shakehead]

Singaporean family tricked into road accident, chased down expressway by JB thugs
