oh Ravi is human right activist, CSJ is anti-establishment activist..... things that concern Singaporean not their biz/territory... only when they can take a dig at the establishment will then be their concern..... fantastic.... [sleeping] .......... when our sovereignty is being challenged...... IT IS EVERY SINGAPOREAN BIZ....

That is just plain illogical.

You want to use Ravi CSJ to lead demonstration to counter the Indos??? He doesn't even have the required national status.

And if he actually did it, you know you would flip prata and call him a fool. I would too.

In return, Indos are just waiting for such an event, anytime Indos can call 10,000 out in front of our embassy in jakarta, maybe even sack it in the heat of the moment when emotions run high like they did the last time.

Demos wont benefit Sg.

And if anyone insist to stage demos, I say again, its the PA or the various PAP wings that are best qualified and have the status... and where are they? Or none of their biz?

Bringing in Ravi and CSJ is a real cheap shot that misses the big picture.

The nationalistic fervour of big countries can be whipped up in such a way that sometimes or rather in most cases, logic or justice is thrown out of the window and they behave like ruffians saying:

WTF are you gonna do about it?

In our case, they will never bow down to eat humble pie and feel absolutely no remorse whatsoever towards this little tiny red dot, regardless of what we have done for them in the past e.g. mobilising both civilian and military resources to help the victims in the 2004 tsunami.

They will never acknowledge the fact that what they have attacked was a civilian target, not a military one and in today's context, is a pure and simple terrorist act.

If we are going to play hardball, then we have to be prepared.

Having said that, I fully support our government's stand in this matter. [nod][nod] [nod]

Changing the ship name is already refused by the Indos.

The ship could possibly be in service for 30years or more... followed by another one once its retired.

That ship can be a thorn in relations forever. There is no good ending here.

The only face saving diplomatic win win way out is that cooler heads prevail.

Maybe Indo agree to a long term sand and granite deal, Sg magnanimously say forgive and forget.. kiss kiss make up, business as usual.

While the name is symbolic and indicative of their psyche, it is by no means an excuse for us to escalate it. It is much better to walk silently but carry a big stick, than to shriek like a chicken but only be able to peck.

I wonder if the recent arms purchases that they've made given them a "new toy" syndrome that thinks that the balance has shifted. That is not merely military balance, but balance of resources, and money as well. The geopolitics of the region since WW2 has been one where certain countries have the resources but not the infrastructure to monetize it; other countries have the money to buy resources and hence need a strong military to defend it.

The little red dot may be little but it also represents a very high concentration of forces that will prove troublesome to crack, whereas large countries have not only to spread themselves to deal with external but also internal threats.

Actually there's lots of money in that country to provide humanitarian aids to their own suffering poor. Its a question whether those who have the money are willing to help their own poorer ones who are affected by tsunamis etc etc. When they have the means but don't look after their own, they cant expect a much

smaller economy/red-dot to do it for them while they sit back and enjoy themselves with the wealth.

Fully agree. They do have the means to look after their own ppl. It just that the government don't want to take it out of their pocket. Can always take loan if they don't have the cash ready. Want to act big then refuse help from smaller country. Those 3 warship also take loan to purchase so why not take loan to provide for their disaster victim? We donate $ for their disaster victim while they take loan to buy warship to defend their country? Does not make sense and our maths failed...

you are wrong in this point, they loan 3 warship to take care 17000 islands spread across about 2 million sqm, it is not easy to see such a big sea, with additional warship they can prevent national loss such as the stealing of resources from indonesian territories as well as protecting commercial ships from attack of pirates.

with improvement in economy through better safety in the sea, economy will improve and government will earn more money though they corrupt more

Totally agree.

They have manpower, very big fertile land as well as a plenty of human and natural resources. They could be a super power easily.

But for so many years, this is not the case.

Jia liao bee.

got big fertile land, rich in natural resources as well as plenty of human but lack of brain

Think you have misunderstood what I am saying. Our maths failed but their are very good with it. Like what you said, they can improve their economy with those 3 warship so they take loan to make the purchase. Why can't they take loans to finance their disaster relive? We help to finance their disaster relive and their spend their $ on 3 warship and name it after 2 terrorist.

Many so-called poor countries have rich leaders / elites owning/controlling most of the resources in the country leaving the poor / non-elites to survive on their own / perish.

To clear up any comprehension fails:

"Singapore's defence ministry (Mindef) confirmed on Sunday it was informed of the the decision by the top military brass to pull out of the air show."

Indonesia's contingent made the decision to pull out. Singapore did not un-invite them.

for a country like indo who is prone to disaster, their only way to do is to improve the economy in order for the govt to be able self suffice, just like china.

maybe for me rather than taking loan for 3 warships i think they better take loan for airport development, toll road and public housing for less developed cities

That's little red dot thinking - 3 warships can move around their territory, that is a communal benefit and everyone's chest swells with pride at their latest acquisitions. But that same amount of money cannot build infrastructure everywhere to make everyone happy. Build a better airport in Sorong and Sulawesi will make noise about not getting a share. It will cost votes from that electorate. And this is an election year...

Again, rubbish reporting by indo's national media claiming SG told them not to come...

LHL is not happy though, and would he have the cool head and foresight of his dad's team remains to be seen

I got to disagree on this. while economic development is impt to our survival, we don't solely depend on indo's investment to keep going.

last but not least, I rather suffer a bit on my pocket than to get insulted this way.

“a bit” - how much the masses here would be willing to fight honour for?

This is a very good strategy at this moment. Maintain that we are concerned but refrain from banging table. Let the other side think over. They will not flip-flop so soon. Big guy mentality?
