I always see alot people KPKB in the respective telco FB page during downtime. Just curious, they can't use their normal phone data plan to temporarily use for the next few hours? Does it really affect them so badly when they still can assess internet to KPKB in the telco FB page. Good to have different telco lines in the household like TPG, Giga. Also good to have downtime occasionally, maybe next will waive off half the charges next month 🤣

$29.9/30/24=$0.041/hr of compensation, my m1 internet downtime around 2.5hrs, probably compensate from m1 $1 only, anything more is a bonus.

USB wifi dongle tethered to phone hotspot (using 4G mobile data).

Dongle cheap and really small now - I've got a few, at least four, lying around the house.

Some phone data plans doesn’t allow tethering/hotspot. Example is GOMO.

Oh wow, I didn't know this. And I just signed up two SIMs with GOMO. I guess I can cancel after first billing and port out line to someone else.

May I ask how they block you? I thought it's a phone function.

That message sent out from M1 is just a general message to all their customers in their data base, whether or not the customer got affected. 😂

Tested and this may not be true (at least in general). Tried with a Huawei device, able to hotspot from GOMO mobile data just fine. Will try with another brand later.

EDIT: Interesting, it initially didn't work on another Oppo device. The hotspot appeared but no Internet service. But it started working given a bit of time.

Using iPhone here. The default settings won't allow for hotspot. Need to go to mobile data > mobile data network > personal hotspot > apn change to hicard, username and password put blank.

The APN needs to be changed to hicard for the mobile data to work reliably in the first place. Some devices can do without this but others don't work at all.

The GOMO package comes with instructions to do the APN change.

hicard is used for the prepaid SIMs so I guess GOMO is just like a non-expiring prepaid service with regular billing lol.

And I consciously avoid using Apple devices because I think they give too little for too much, and restrict rather than empower. Android gives more freedom and my Huawei devices have some of the best implementations of Android I've ever experienced.
