When she was about to turn out of her apartment into Loyang Road, she spied a Caucasian cyclist approaching on a bike.

Caucasian, again ?

I think her judgement must be quite bad. Many drivers underestimate the speed of cyclists and always turn out without giving way to them.

Sometimes not easy to estimate their speed also. They could suddenly speed up or slow down, without warning......

Still, the cyclist has no right to tear down the aunty's side mirror....

An angry cyclist grabbed and twisted the side-view mirror of a 60-year-old housewife's car during a confrontation along Loyang Road.

According to a report on Shin Min Daily News and omy.sg, she had left her home to pick up her husband at the airport.

When she was about to turn out of her apartment into Loyang Road, she spied a Caucasian cyclist approaching on a bike.

Judging that she had ample room to make the turn safely, she did so, only to find the cyclist had ridden up to the side of her car and started banging on her door.

During the altercation, the man had apparently twisted her side view mirror, then tried stopping her car.

Madam Lim however changed lanes and drove off to avoid him.

She later lodged a police report over the matter.

I think the majority of people would react quite angrily when almost hit by a car. You can't expect hugs and kisses. Yes ripping off the mirror is extreme, but the lady did drive off. We don't know if the cyclist was hit or not and managed to stay upright and was trying to get her attention. It is just another Stomp article full of holes in the story.

Make police report so what?

She think the police will bother to track down the cyclist?

Come on! As I said before! unless you are some elite, else the police will not give hoots about you.

Anyway, I have doubt over the auntie judgement.

Also, sometimes just give way to the cyclist la. It's easier for the driver to step on the brake and gas pedal than for the cyclist to brake completely to a stop then start pedaling again.

That's why I feel drivers should look/stare at least for 2 secs, 3 if need be, depending on the situation, before deciding if the speed of an oncoming vehicle allows them to make a turn or not. More often than not, most people (especially females) just take a quick glance, "feel" that the distance is still far enough, and proceed to slowly turn out/u-turn/switch lanes.

I always felt that all electric powered bicycle should be outlawed on public roads. And the penalty when caught flaunting the law is to have the bicycle confiscated.

IIRC, electric powered bicycle are only allowed in NParks.

Agree that the cyclist has no right to destroy her side mirror but then I doubt cyclists can speed up or slow down faster than other motor vehicles. If she can't judge a cyclist's speed properly then its dangerous for her to be driving on the roads.
