A cyclist rode into Stomper Tan's lane along Jurong Town Hall Road towards Bukit Batok Road on Jan 31, without even slowing down or checking for oncoming traffic.

He also had earphones on and told the Stomper that he did not want to argue with her when confronted, as it was Chinese New Year.

Tan wrote in her email:

"On 31 Jan at around half past nine (viewers, kindly ignore the date and time in the videos as I did not update my car camera's settings), I was traveling along Jurong Town Hall Road towards Bukit Batok Road after the junction of Jurong East Avenue 1.

"This reckless cyclist, who did not even bother to turn his head to check on the main traffic nor did he show an intent to slow down, rode his way out of the filter lane on his electronic bicycle.

"An attempt to let the cyclist know how dangerous his riding was failed as he thought we just wanted to argue with him. He even had the cheek to say it’s our Chinese New Year and that he did not want to argue with us.

"Note the cyclist had an earpiece on both his ears while he was riding on the road."

I always felt that all electric powered bicycle should be outlawed on public roads. And the penalty when caught flaunting the law is to have the bicycle confiscated.

I did hear that the cyclist apologise and said sorry. And he was calm enough to say its CNY and he didn't want to argue.

On that note, as much as he was wrong to cycle recklessly, I thought the stomper should have also graciously move on. Infact, I find it rude for the stomper to even upload this video and try to make it look like he was right.

Having the right of way does not always mean it is right to scold, abuse or reprimand others. End of the day, it is not about right of way, it is about achieving the right of being safe to oneself and to others. In that sense, it is about anticipative driving and willing to stop/give way for the safety of all regardless who has the right of way.

Being safe is the first priority as a motorist. Not being right of way. And certainly not abt having the joy of chasing down someone and scold them just because they violated the right of way.

I have met countless of such cyclist and I am sure many in this forum did as well. As long we drive anticipatively, and carefully when they are present, I am sure most will just move on without any fuss.

To purposely chase back the cyclist, to scold him and haggle with him is far more disturbing and hazardous than the reckless act of the cyclist himself.

While I would love to see some action taken against these hazardous motorized cyclists (I have countless encounters with them as well in my neighbourhood), I also get turned off by the Stomper's approach with their right-of-way arguments. Getting sick of people starting their arguments with "Whose fault?"

If they confront the rider and tell him off based on safety issue, so be it.

Auth should do something about the cyclist issue on a macro level. These are no longer incidents that are few & far between. In the event of loss of cyclist lives, the motorist would almost inevitably have an uber hard time defending why he/she should still possess his/her license.

Just like the Tampines accident , 1 yr ago, tragedy struck. A year later same place again. Dunno wats stopping them....

not the first case of near accident, not the last case if people want to b retards on the road.

just be defensive, as drivers dont care who right who wrong, no langgar or road rage can liao.

The motorized cyclist was 100% wrong by traffic law. But it wasn't really a "close thing" or at least shouldn't have been if driver had been alert and driving defensively. Anyway, driver and occupant should already have got it out of their system by blasting their horn, what's the need to confront the cyclist again? I understand if they cyclist had been an SOB and showed middle finger or whatever, but this clearly wasn't the case.

Even if they want to give advice to the cyclist, there's a gentler way ("Excuse me, you were riding dangerously, could you please be more careful?"). These guys just came across as chao ah beng and chao ah lian in the way they accosted the cyclist. Maybe it's just a piss-poor command of the language, but honestly, if one can't articulate oneself, then one is better off not speaking.

Wah...real melting pot our singapore

An angry cyclist grabbed and twisted the side-view mirror of a 60-year-old housewife's car during a confrontation along Loyang Road.

According to a report on Shin Min Daily News and omy.sg, she had left her home to pick up her husband at the airport.

When she was about to turn out of her apartment into Loyang Road, she spied a Caucasian cyclist approaching on a bike.

Judging that she had ample room to make the turn safely, she did so, only to find the cyclist had ridden up to the side of her car and started banging on her door.

During the altercation, the man had apparently twisted her side view mirror, then tried stopping her car.

Madam Lim however changed lanes and drove off to avoid him.

She later lodged a police report over the matter.

I think her judgement must be quite bad. Many drivers underestimate the speed of cyclists and always turn out without giving way to them.

Dangerous riding is dangerous riding.

What difference does it make whether its an electric bicycle or normal bicycle?

Why must ban electric bicycle? Normal bicycle can be ridden equally dangerously so ban that too?
