golden1 Neutral Newbie February 8, 2014 Share February 8, 2014 I had very bad experience with RS Automotive Workshop in Ubi. My stories with RS Automotive Workshop – Feeling cheated and infuriated I have never felt so cheated in Singapore after my encounterings with RS Automotive workshop at Ubi. At the end of the whole incident, this workshop even gave me a HDB car park fine as a ‘pleasant and helpless’ surprise. I sincerely advise you that if you still have other choices, please never step into this workshop. As a disclaimer, this is solely my personal advice and opinion. Here is my story. Let’s talk about facts. I bought my first car in life, a resale car from Kruise Auto who claimed to have bought a 6-month warranty for the engine and gear from RS Automotive workshop. For some reason, the dealer did not bring my car down for warranty registration and I drove my newly bought car to RS Automotive workshop on Saturday 11 January 2014. I was told to find Richard by Kruise Auto. Richard checked the engine oil and gear oil and advised me to change the transmission oil as it did not look clear and red. To be frank, Richard looked trustworthy and honest to me. I took his advice and paid SGD90 plus for changing the auto transmission oil. Kruise Auto sent my car for major service at another workshop before selling the car to me. I had a copy of the receipt which shows the items done in this major service. To my shock, transmission oil was just changed on 30 Dec 2013. I first felt cheated by RS Automotive because I strongly believed that as a workshop boss, an experienced technician, definitely knew how a fresh or well conditioned transmission oil should look like. I sms Richard and he gave me some explanation. I felt angry but I chose to accept it and believe him. I always trusted the well conduct of business in Singapore and believed that a business can grow and succeed only if it could create value to his clients. The second coming second episode with RS Automotive proved me wrong. I was really too naïve. After driving for 3 days following this change of transmission oil, the engine start of my car did not work well. Car battery was fine as checked. On Sunday 19 January 2014, the check engine fault light was on and I quickly drove my car to RS Automotive workshop as the claimed warranty for the engine and gear is still in force. Richard investigated my car. Suspecting fault in one of the switches, he advised me to leave my car with his workshop. As I need to use my car at night for some urgent matter, after confirming that my car was safe to drive, I drove my car away on the same day and later passed my car to RS Automotive workshop on 21 January 2014 morning. I was told to collect my car on 22 January 2014. Richard told me that he had changed a switch part and also sent my car to Chevrolet agent for engine calibration setting. I went down with my colleague after work. Before reaching RS Automotive workshop, from far I saw my car with engine running at idle state. I felt something was not right. I called Richard and was told that he left for wedding dinner. The workshop staff attended to me. I was appalled to see the bill. Changing the switch part ( I have no idea what it is in fact) charged me SGD280 and also calibration for SGD 200. I called Richard and asked him for the receipt from Chevrolet agent for such service. He told me that he could waive it as my car was still not performing perfectly after the calibration and changing the switch. I stepped into my car and I was even more infuriated. I drove my car well to this workshop from home but now I could not drive it away at all. After starting the engine, my car just ceased fire when I moved auto gear to D2. My car could not move forward nor move backward at all. The repairing made my car even worse! It could not run at all now. I lost all my trust and confidence in this workshop – RS Automotive. How dare this workshop changed my switch without telling me the price and even charged me when it ‘spoilt’ my car! I did sms Richard to question him the price. His reply was that he would definitely give me a good price. The technician tried to reverse the old switch but the car did not work. I requested for the switch taken out from my car as I paid for the new switch installed in my car. However, they did not give me the part as they needed to trade in the switch for giving me this price. Of course, I did not believe this nonsense at all. My colleague advised me to settle this bill and he got another workshop of his contact to tow my car on the next day as all the workshops were closed at 8 pm. As Richard was not around and I could not drive the car away, the technician and staff in the workshop told me to leave the car with them and let them repair this car further. One technician advised me to change the throttle body as he thought that caused the problem. Though I distrusted this workshop completely, I could not do anything but left the car to them. The workshop told me that they would park my car at the parking lot in front of the workshop as the workshop had season parking lots. On my way home, my colleague prompted me a lot of questions. “Who brought you to this workshop? Car dealer? Did the car dealer share profits with this workshop if really cheating my money?” “Is this workshop trying to squeeze more money from my car by creating more new problems?” I could not sleep well the whole night as I wasted so much money to buy a lousy car from the dealer and also cheated badly by the related workshop. The next day another workshop came to tow this car at around 11 am on 23 January 2014. I told Richard not to change anything in my car without my permission. In the end, my car ‘recovered’ well by changing another switch. Touching wood, all these problems did not came gain. I paid another SGD 250 to this workshop for towing service and replacing a switch part. I felt thankful for having a good friend’s help and swore that I would never go back to RS Automotive Workshop even though there was so called purchased warranty. After Chinese New Year, on 6 February 2014, I received a pink letter from HDB. My goodness! It was a HDB parking fine for parking at KU5 UBI ROAD 1 Lot No 2 without displaying valid parking coupons on 07:41AM 23/01/2014. I could clearly remember that we pushed my car into this park lot as my car could not be driven. RS Automotive workshop set a ‘hidden bomb’ for my car. As a good citizen, I never got a fine from government. Thanks to RS Automotive, I got my first fine from the government right after Chinese New Year. Though the amount of SGD30 was not a big sum, I felt super disappointed and infuriated. I could have never imagined how awful and evil a workshop business could be. My friend could be right. The car workshop industry in Singapore is very complicated and could be very ‘daylight robbing’. I called Richard upon reading this fine notice letter on 6 Feb evening. He agreed to pay me and asked me to collect SGD 30 from his workshop by showing the letter. I stayed in the west. It was AS Automotive’s fault. Why must I suffer all the trouble to collect fine payment from him? I requested for the Internet banking transfer. He agreed. I sent him the copy of the fine notice via whatsapps and my payment receipt online as I paid first to avoid further late payment fine. Later as expected, the game went on ‘delay tactic’. He first agreed to pay me on the next day 7 Feb. On 7 Feb afternoon, he told to pay me after work as I kept chasing him. At night he replied me ‘not yet’. Before I published this story, I checked my account again at 11:30PM. Nothing was received. I did not intend to write and publish my story with RS Automotive as I always felt that people needed an earning. It could be my fault or misunderstanding with this workshop. I called the car dealer Kruise Auto a few times not to continue any business with RS Automotive in order to protect future car buyers if they still had a heart and business conscience. However, this parking fine notice really stepped onto my nerve. I have got a chance to see the ugly side of business in Singapore as not everything is as good as we expected here. I have not seen any service recovery and any apology from Richard. I wonder how could this workshop got so many enterprise awards as shown in its website www.rsautomotive.com.sg. I just hope that new buyers can benefit from my stories and be careful in future.

I was too naive to trust the workshop and thus leave my car with them before I went to work. They could then install anything into my car and charged me. This workshop charged me for a part taken out from another car and 'traded in' my spoilt switch. The worst part is that the workshop did not resolve the problem!
