Tampines residents face heavy vehicle hazard

The scene of an accident on Monday involving a tipper truck and a car at the junction of Tampines Street 45 and Tampines Avenue 9.

 

The tipper truck involved in a recent accident at the Tampines junction where two young brothers died a year earlier came from the same construction site as the cement-mixer truck that killed the boys.

With new projects lined up at the site near Tampines Street 45, residents fear this means more heavy vehicles plying the roads in the area and greater danger for children especially.

"Having many heavy vehicles ferrying construction material in and out all day long right smack in a school zone is very dangerous," said housewife Christina Tan, 48, who lives on Tampines Street 45. "These heavy vehicles shouldn't be so near such a populated road where lots of people walk to and from school."

Accidents involving heavy vehicles have come under the spotlight after Nigel Yap, 13, and his brother Donavan, seven, were fatally hit by a cement-mixer truck in January last year at the junction of Tampines Street 45 and Tampines Avenue 9. The driver responsible, Munir Mohd Naim, was jailed for two weeks on Monday for negligence.

What she talking sia? If these heavy vehicles cannot travel in these populated road, where the hell she want them to transport the construction materials to the sites?

They should address the speed, timing of transportation and demeanor of these drivers. 40kmh means 40kmh. No concessions....

Trying going to Punggol Way towards Seletar direction and see the speed these trucks are going.

 

A better solution would be for someone to setup a blog page featuring these speeding trucks, That would put TP and LTA to shame and hopefully they'll do something. Also they'll not have the opportunity to say "number of speeding offences have reduced".

 

In addition, also to fine the registered company/owner of the truck 2x the fine. That will force these companies have the social responsibilities to "educate" safe driving and adhering to traffic rules.

At least to reduce their frequency of cut down the number of construction works going on in the area.

If not, then create specific routes they can travel on to reach their construction sites.

prob is that

 

- when laden, think its 40. When unladen 60.

 

- assuming speed limiter is intact for 60, it would mean they can still speed around at 60 about resi/school ares if the driver f care.

 

- Hence, LTA/TP should be focusing their efforts on these vehicles instead rather than nit-picking on passenger vehicle mods that are otherwise perfectly legal in other 1st world countries.

It takes 2 to tango!! This happens when both vehicle think they are invincible! This past few days has become a frightful journey on the rd. Vehicles overtaking without due care, without signalling and the list goes on! I usually avoid going out or try to be more careful and tolerant during major festivities. Drive safe everyone!

but its not as bad as these few days! Friday evening was quite bad.....pple zig-zagging without due care and not signalling, overtaking from left without signalling (i was on the 2nd lane and travelling close to 110). Maybe they are thinking that they are in a race or they are tokkong driver....but accident do happen when one is over-confident and reckless.
