In recent days commuters in Singapore have cultivated the good habit of forming an orderly line before entering the train at the MRT station, but one auntie ups the ante by queueing -- with her grocery bags.

Stomper Safwan spotted a middle-aged woman placing her grocery bags near the doors on the MRT platform yesterday, Jan 28, in a bid to chope her place in the queue before boarding at Ang Mo Kio station.
According to him, she had placed her groceries on her floor before proceeding to have a seat.
Other commuters, thinking it was some unattended bags, picked them up and tried to move them away or find the owner.
The auntie then shouted from her seat, asking them to leave the bags alone and to put them back in their place.
She told everyone she just wanted to rest, while still having a place in the queue.
The Stomper said:
"I find it inappropriate to do this as people might trip over if they don't notice the bags.."
All the other commuters then proceeded to queue behind her grocery bags, waiting for the next train to arrive.

First used tissue paper to chope seats, now used grocery bags to chope a place in the queue.

What's next?

Soiled underwear to chope a place in the queue for Lim Chee Guan Bak Gwa?

Should report, might be a bomb... Have to stay alert, didn't they ask us to do this after 911?..if speed any unattended package, report...

Stomper already said Auntie, so probably middle age, never say the built. If larger size, standing prolong period could be bad for knees.

Why blame Auntie? It may seem ungracious. But what made her behave this way?

1) Insufficient seats on the train?

2) Have bad knee but don't look frail enough to have priority seat? So have to be in front of the queue to ensure have seats.

3) what made her think she can't get a seat, equally ungracious commuters? Where non wanted to give up a seat to someone who could need one?

Stomper want to shame people must also provide strong ground to do it, or else the story have no gravity.

Reminds me of that Mr Bean episode where he wants to be first in queue for a furniture sale, waiting for the doors to open.

But he's clever enough not to have to queue overnight - by planting a sleeping bag at the door stuffed up to look as if there's a person inside [laugh]

Anyone remember that episode?

If in US, I think security will beep beep, walkie talkie. Maybe standby bomb disposal unit.

This is not really a case of unattended bags with unknown owners, as the auntie was nearby to claim it... so I doubt security would be alerted.

Even for unattended bags at the airport, as I've seen overseas, the security staff will first attempt to locate the owner nearby, ask bystanders for info, etc. The bags will only be removed after they fail to find the owner after a while.

If indeed auntie has problem with her health / legs etc and has to resort to this to give herself a better chance of getting into the train and find a seat, maybe it shows she has not much confidence of getting help from fellow passengers. Doesn't reflect very well on the society.
