light strong and cheap dont come hand in hand

korean technology steel is strong, my friend kanna sandwiched in korea, the Kia Carens he drove saved him and family

thanks goodness your friend is okay after the collision.

if you are interest in metallurgy and some background of the AHSS, here i extracted some useful info from general website point of view:-

1) Article on AHSS history in automotive industries since year 19xx

https://www.autosteel.org/-/media/files/autosteel/research/ahss/ahss-101---the-evolving-use-of-advanced-high-strength-steels-for-automotive-applications---lr.ashx

2) AHSS in elantra (joy for hyundai fan)

http://www.repairerdrivennews.com/2015/09/09/next-gen-hyundai-elantra-now-53-advanced-high-strength-steel/

3) UHSS in honda repair (some limited info only)

http://www.repairerdrivennews.com/2015/07/28/dramatic-honda-displays-show-why-uhss-steel-door-ring-must-stay-unsectioned/

remark on AHSS and UHSS extract from general website:

The big question for repairers will be how much of the car falls into the ultra-high-strength-steel category above 780 megapascals. Advanced high-strength-steel generally refers to any alloys 550 MPa and higher. (Old mild steel is around 210-280 MPa, depending on who you’re asking.)

happy reading and is a pleasure to share.

How is your experience using the "Econ" mode in the City.  Does it save you petrol or just a pain because of the poorer acceleration?

What about tire pressure?  There is a chart when you open the driver's door.  Do you inflate it 220/210 kPA when you drive more or less than 160km/h?

Econ mode is a pain in the a**.. The pickup and rubber band effect is prolonged and dragging the acceleration. Step more also no use.. Save petrol, maybe. But i still avoid using it.

I used it for a period of 1 tank and observed that my FC worsened. Probably I accelerated more to make up for the rubber band effect without me realising it.

Nowsdays, my FC has settled to 16+ -to 17km/L with the Econ mode and I'm satisfied; unless the Econ mode allows me to stay 18km/L or more consistently based on  my driving routes and style.

The latest Jazz is extremely spacious and more spacious than most 1.6 saloon car. The perception of the Jazz has always been a small and nippy car which is totally misplaced. I would trade for the 1.3 Jazz anytime for the Elantra, Sylphy, or Mazda 3 because it is under A2 while the rest are B; meaning the Jazz costs about 10K less than the Sylphy and Mazda.

Econ mode doesn't help me save much fuel. The pickup with ECON mode is totally sheet.

Tire pressure 240kpa for all sides. didnt go beyond 2000rpm yet fc only 13km/l. Any recommendation how to achieve better mileage? any one uses aftermarket air filter like hurricane can share the performance and reliability?

Probably it is your routes taken and traffic conditions.

My tire pressure set at 220 and like you, I didn't go beyond 2000rpm during pick up and cruise at about 80km/h.

I travel mostly on expressways during off peaks and cruise control is always on in KPE, Econ mode is off at all times.

No aftermarket add on/mods and I top up with Esso 8000. I tried 5000 but my FC goes downhill. This has been consistent with my previous cars with 8000 and 5000.

I hit 16+km/L most days and 17km/L on better days.

Never use cruise control before.... how do you do it ?

I use it mainly along KPE during off peak hours. The cruise controls are on the steering wheel right side.

Accelerate to your desired speed, press the cruise button followed by the set (it's the down directional button). Release the accelerator and it will maintain at your set speed.

To disable it, just press the cruise/cancel button at the centre of the directional button or tap your brake. The cruise control will disengage immediately but don't expect it to decelerate to a dead slow. Braking will be more effective to disengage and slow down the car immediately.

I read that the cruise control only work at the speed above 40km/h. I have not try this; only engage at 80km/h.

Our City does not have the adaptive cruise control, hence not advisable to enable it in congested traffic conditions when there is a need to slow down the car due to traffic ahead.

I got a scare when I used it the 1st time. The car was going uphill and it rev up suddenly just to maintain my set speed. Luckily, the car in front of me didn't slow down. Since then, I will disable it when there is a up slope ahead and take over the control. Hence, use it with care and always assess the road conditions ahead.

Thanks

Don't complain about FC of 13km/l.  My mileage 1200km so far and my FC is 11.5km/l (twice) - 12km/l (once).  I mostly make short journeys, a lot of the time in peak hour traffic and almost no highway driving.  2010 Vios used to give me FC of 10km/l under similar conditions (AT).  I don't know if the new Vios (CVT) gives better mileage.

I read conflicting reports about whether the Jazz gets better FC than this.  I wonder how the Mazda 2, Mazda 3 and the Korean cars compare.
