Train service between Tampines and Tanah Merah on the East-West line was disrupted on Wednesday night, at about 10 pm.

Train operator SMRT said in its official Twitter channel at about 10.45 pm on Wednesday that the disruption is due to a track fault, and engineers "are at the site rectifying the fault now".
It also provided free bus bridging services between Pasir Ris and Tanah Merah to affected commuters.

"Breaking News: Minister congratulates SMRT on its First Day without incidents on the MRT lines in 2 years"

One cannot have a reliable train service if not enough money is catered for maintenance - simple as that. Look at airlines, they cannot afford to turn-back aircraft too many times.

For SG, the MRT operators have a problem - how to max profit while still have to spend on maint cost.

There was a recent rpt on HK MTR - was praised on the good model there - the MTR owns land and properties, some on the very site of the MTR stations. Thus, they can draw on the revenue to maintain the lines.

In SG, to have a very reliable svc, commuters have to help to pay. Did SG miss out on a good MRT operating model?

I like this sentence -

"We are DOING OUR BEST to restore services" [laugh] [laugh]

They were obviously not doing their best. If they were, it wouldn't breakdown in the first place [:|]

The problem with our system is, profit takes precedent over every other matter (incl maintenance and reliability). Thus the focus is already in the wrong place.

Compared to what they will be getting from the fare hike? I say peanuts lah.

What ppl lost are precious time. No amount of money can buy that back.
