Voodooman Supersonic January 27, 2014 Share January 27, 2014 The thing is, we only know about this because something else went wrong. How many cases have there been of someone slipping through that we were never told about? If this car can get through, and only noticed two minutes later, have there been cases that haven't been detected and noticed at all? No reasonable system is going to be 100% fool proof, but there are still questions about how this could have happened in the first place - and why weren't we told sooner (like PN Balji says of Mas Selamat - perhaps "the public" could have found this car much sooner had they been told) Valid point but for a car to get thru CIQ without being stopped at passport control and security checkpoint is probably not a common occurence. Hence, I would attribute the case to gross negligence and not so much to possible gaps in the existing procedures. Of course you can implement a system with 5 independent checkpoints to ensure a foolproof system but that would be "socializing" the cost without much benefits to all parties, the real criminals and/or terrorists determined to get into Singapore will just find another alternative. I heard the woman does not have a passport, so how did she get across Malaysian CIQ? ↡ Advertisement
Darryn Turbocharged January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 It's not an uncommon site when at Malaysian CIQ to see Malaysian registered cars "touch n go" at the immigration windows - you will also notice they don't have barriers at their exit booths. Darthrevan Supercharged February 5, 2014 Author Share February 5, 2014 Malaysian teacher charged with trespassing did not show up in court on medical grounds Malaysian teacher Nurul Ruhana Ishak, who has been charged with criminal trespass, did not show up for her first scheduled court appearance on Wednesday due to medical reasons. Malaysia Deputy High Commissioner Kamsiah Kamaruddin told The Straits Times that "Nurul is deemed unfit to attend trial" and that the case has now been postponed to Feb 26. The postponement was requested by prosecutors based on recommendations by doctors at the Institute of Mental Health, where Nurul has been remanded for about two weeks, and where she will continue to receive medication till her court appearance, added Ms Kamsiah. Nurul, a 28-year-old native of Kedah state who is said to have a long history of mental illness, allegedly slipped past immigration officers at the Woodlands checkpoint on Jan 17. Celicar Turbocharged February 5, 2014 Share February 5, 2014 She did show up in court, just that she managed to tailgate someone in and out without being stopped as officers-in-charge did not immediately raise the alarm. By the time the alarm was raised two minutes later, efforts to locate her were unsuccessful despite an immediate lock down of the court and surrounding area. It is expected that three days later, the incident can no longer be covered up and Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean will then have to express his dissatisfaction again, and also express his dissatisfaction at having to express his dissatisfaction for a second time. Darthrevan Supercharged March 14, 2014 Author Share March 14, 2014 Malaysian woman who slipped past officers at checkpoint granted discharge The Malaysian woman caught after slipping past immigration officers at Woodlands Checkpoint on January 17, was on Friday granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal. Nurul Rohana Ishak, 27, will be released to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore, and sent back to Malaysia. The prosecution had withdrawn the three charges against her, following a report from the Institute of Mental Health that she was of unsound mind. Nurul Rohana was facing three charges -- one for criminal trespass, and two alleged offences under the Immigration Act. She was accused of trespassing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) at Sherwood Road on January 20. She was also accused of failing to present her Malaysia passport to authorities at Woodlands Checkpoint before entering Singapore on January 17 at about 2pm. Nurul Rohana also faced one count of failing to stop her vehicle at Woodlands Checkpoint upon arrival from Malaysia on the same day. Neost 6th Gear March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 In my opinion, the best decision is to release her and continue her mental treatment. If u jail her, she may tailgate somebody and goes out of the prison. Then, big case again. So, I support the courts decision.
