Fast-food outlets in Malaysia not allowed to hire foreign help

PUTRAJAYA - Fast-food concept restaurants in the country will not be allowed to hire foreign workers in order for Malaysians to be given priority in employment, said the Cabinet Committee on Foreign Workers and Illegal Immigrants.
The decision was made by the committee during a meeting here yesterday.
"Many locals are still interested to work in fast-food restaurants. Cooking skills needed in fast-food outlets are not as demanding as in restaurants and can be easily learnt through training.
"As such, the jobs are preferred by locals, especially youths, school-leavers and university students, to gain experience in the food and beverage industry and as a source of income, either on a part-time or full-time basis," it said in a statement after the meeting.
It is learnt that there had been applications by fast-food operators to employ foreign workers but these were rejected by the Government.
The two-and-a-half hour meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was also attended by Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Rohani Karim and Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Douglas Unggah Embas.
However, the statement did not mention when the ruling would come into effect.
During the meeting, the committee also agreed to extend the present Malaysia-Bangladesh government-to-government mechanism for the hiring of foreign workers in Sarawak.
"The mechanism is for the Sarawak state government to fill up vacancies in its oil palm plantation sector," it said.
On the Special Programme of Managing Illegals, the committee urged employers, who claimed to have been cheated by agents and middlemen during the 6P programme, to go to the Home Ministry's one-stop centre before Jan 20 to sort out their applications.

100% no is quite impossible, many F&B in Malaysia are hiring FT where the situation is as bad as here.
i wonder this will reduce the m'sian who work in the F&B here but i doubt so as the exchange rate is too strong.

Last Dec, went in to Batu Pahat Mall and observed that all their Fast Food Chains employed Malays at the counters. Have lunch at the Chicken Rice outlet at the ground floor and all are Malays serving. [flowerface]

yahoo news: At least 60 KL cops under probe in biggest anti-graft ops ever

A disgruntled policeman's complaint to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) six months ago marked the beginning of an investigation that has resulted in some 60 policemen being probed for money-laundering and corruption.

The anti-graft operation, one of the largest in recent times, was a joint effort by MACC, Bank Negara, the Inland Revenue Department, National Registration Department, Immigration Department and Customs.

A senior MACC official told The Malaysian Insider that all the policemen were based in Kuala Lumpur and they were suspected of collecting bribes from operators of illegal businesses in the capital city.

The businesses ranged from illegal gaming cybercafes to massage parlours and vice dens, the official said.

Depending on the type of business, each operator contributed between RM10,000 and RM50,000 a month to the policemen to avoid being raided and hassled, he added.

The rogue policemen were also very organised with each tasked with collecting the monthly fee within a certain area.
