Is this your grandfather's road? Tiong Bahru launches campaign against illegal parking
About 20 Tiong Bahru residents, volunteers and MP Indranee Rajah took to the streets of the conservation estate on Sunday morning to discourage drivers and visitors of the estate from parking illegally.
The campaign "Is this your grandfather's road" is part of Seng Poh Residents' Committee's kindness movement and hopes to encourage visiting motorists to park at the 600 public lots across the estate. Pamphlets, detailing the locations of these lots, were placed on the windscreen of illegally parked cars. These locations include open-air carparks at block 78 and at Seng Poh Road.
Complaints from residents about inconsiderate drivers and congestion in the estate have been on the rise over the past three years when hip cafes and eateries started setting up shop in the neighbourhood.
The campaign is timely, said residents such as Mr Donald Wyatt, 78. "It encourages safer driving and promotes a kampung and community spirit even as the estate blossoms," said Mr Wyatt, who helped distribute the flyers. Campaign organisers also hope to seek out the great-great grandchildren of the pioneers whom the streets of Tiong Bahru are named after. These include pioneers such as Teochew merchant Seah Eu Chin.

They should record the car number of first time offenders and if these offenders repeat illegal parking, give them two summons covering the first and second offences!!! If they have not repeated such second time, bo tai ji!!!

Great effort. Illegal parking has been a problem for quite a while. About time this is done. Apart from issuing tickets, raising awareness is also important and I am glad the RC (quite different from the 'norm'. They are more pro-active in making sure the estate maintain it's strong 'kumpong spirit' and making sure the older folks living on their own are ok) chose the 'soft' approach and do some footwork instead of pushing the problem to the authorities. [thumbsup]

True, but I would prefer a more pro-active educative approach first than to use a summon approach.

So good work to the group of people there, but I find the campaign slogan "is this your grandfather's road" very distasteful. It sounded confrontational. If they want to use a soft educative approach, then why such a provocative slogan?

Bloody Inconsiderate MP! Your action is nonetheless the same as those leaflet distributors.

I hate these leaflet on my windscreen.....whenever it rain, all stick onto windscreen.

Who cares about FINE......money can earn back.....as what a bro mentioned earlier....

1) wheelclamp these idiots is the best way

2) draw double zig-zag line and give demerit points

3) set up camera zone

dont waste time giving leaflets to score points.

if you are frequent driver that always pass by Golden Mile area during the day/night, you will realize that the CAMERA works 100%. giving those bo chap driver demerit points.

No jam at all. Unlike those golden days where tour buses jammed the area

Lagi best, Celicar want summon, you want wheel clamp.. Haha..

Though honestly, hard to find parking near some of the cafes there (not an excuse to block up the roads)..
