got servicing leh. but admittedly my travelling is short distance and full of traffic lights. Still, i never expected it to be so bad leh...

it's a 1.6l Auto...

Very no power, very drink petrol...

nope, didn't upsize, but i bought second hand, so not sure if previous owner did...

I guess as much lor...

but then hor, i used to drive a Atos 1.0 manual, and it was also only about 10-11 km/l only leh... Before that, worse, got a Daewoo Lanos 1.6M, and was lucky if I could get 8 km/l. Quite often, only 7.xx lor... Really disappointed with korean cars... (although given my type of route, even Japs might not fare significantly better)...

I mean must also compare the purchase price.

Mine for instance. Getz 44k. Jazz 62k

Upfront looks like save $18k.

But as the years go by, the price diff slowly narrows. So in a way, its still equitable.

If my Getz could do 14-15/litre, that would make Jazz buyers look [hur]

It's not difficult to guess what the car models are. If you look at the US market those cars with at least 2.4L , 3.5L V6 and V6 turbo engine options, SUV, big sedans & coupe just to name a few must be the culprits. Definitely not Getz or Verna which I think were not even in that market. And it's mentioned are latest models of the past 3 years.

Yes yes...

i was prepared for bad FC, but was still disappointed. Then again, it was a conscious choice i made when purchasing those cars so no regrets: the Lanos and Atos were both resale car with the $101 COE... can't find so cheap cars anywhere else, so lived with the poor FC...

probably it's the driving style or could be letting the car engine idle a lot?

Talk about overinflating ones ability. I think only ppl in the US get to sue. Sgp owners LLST.

http://www.worldcarfans.com/113122567948/hyundai-and-kia-agree-to-pay-395m-usd-to-settle-lawsuits

South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia have agreed to pay about 395M USD in order to settle lawsuits related to overinflating fuel economy numbers.

The entire debacle started more than a year ago and concerned 900,000 cars from 2011MY, 2012MY and 2013MY which had overstated mileage ratings. Eight Hyundai models and five Kia nameplates received the wrong mpg ratings and as a consequence about 53 lawsuits were initiated and then consolidated into a single case which was handled in the Los Angeles federal court.

Fast forward to today, Hyundai has agreed to pay an average of 353 USD to owners of approximately 600,000 cars, while 300,000 Kia owners will get about 667 USD. If we do the math, Hyundai will pay about 210M USD and Kia will have to part with 185M USD, according to the statements issued by the two companies.

The exact amount of money the two will have to pay depends on how many clients will choose to receive the lump sum payments. Owners who qualify for reimbursements have the possibility of either taking the payment or continue to take part in a reimbursement program initiated by Hyundai and Kia when the mpg figures were updated. This reimbursement plan consists of providing debit cards to compensate for the extra fuel clients had to acquire.

Im not surprised.

Even their BHP figures seem over-inflated.

Long ago it was common for many makers of high end cars to over-inflate the BHP figures on their cars cos nobody had the means to really check.

Ty make their cars seem more powerful than ty really were. Just to impress buyers.

Read somewhere that the figures were taken while coasting down a gentle slope. But in that article I read, Hyun volountarily refund them. Some critiqued that it was a PR stunt.

Japs also. They fig is based on Jap combine cycle = cuise at top gear at constant 60kmh over a fixed distance.

For whatever combine fig Ic, Korean, Jap, I take 2/3 of that as the real SIN figure.

I wil take FC n BHP figures given by all maufacturers with a pinch of salt.

my hyundai verna average less than 9 km/l, going close to 11 km/l if i use a lot of expressway... can ask for compensation boh?

Yes. Now go ahead n sue the pants off Komoko.

BTW.....Let us know the outcome once the case is settled hor. [grin]

Other car makers are also making unsubstantiated claims when declaring the fuel economy of their vehicles. They did not mention anything about whether the claimed fuel economy is with the aircon switched on or off., or with the spare tyre in the boot, or others things that might contribute to better fuel economy. Some German cars are offering cars with 1.4l engines claimed a fuel economy of about 22km/l. Is there any truth in in?

Just like those boys in school. Everyone wil claim he has the biggest dick or screwed the most gers.

But these claims r seldom proved. Hahaha.

It's about the principle mah. How can they bluff consumers and take ppl for a ride?

If petrol company give you $80 worth when you paid $100 for the petrol. Do you just sit there and say as long as there's petrol in the tank it's ok? You will feel ripped off. Why do you think ppl sue?

Hahaha. Not only cars lah. From detergents to foodstuffs. All bluff the consumers. Its called ADVERTISING.

Even gharments wil lie to the pple very often too.

That's why I maintain whatever the broc states for mix driving, just take 2/3 of that as the real world figures or at least where living in sin is concerned. Anything more is a bonus.

My Getz says 14.5/liter. 2/3 = 9.57/litre with light foot. Which is about there.

mcf article on auris stated they got 12.7 instead of 17.5 /litre as per spec sheet. Also there.

Even my ex Honda 400cc bike stated 30/litre, I get only 20/litre. (maybe if drag less can get 23?)

Since sin, has little consumer rights, just have to be aware of the situation. Just like the new Maz 3 broc, states 100km/5.7 L or 17.54/L ?

I would rather set my expectation at 11.7 / litre. Many lao 3 owners report 9/litre. Broc for new 3 states 27% improvement over older model = 11.43 / L which is about there. Conservatively at least 11/L for new Maz 3 imo.

Cant cfm but an adver does not constitute a contract. If not contract, how to sue? So let the consumer beware.

How the manufacturers came about with their FC figures is the difference. If ty dun follow a fixed standard to test, ty can get all sorts of different figures.

Like the car has everything removed. Only 2-3 lit of fuel in the tank. Road is a downhill gradient. There was a tailwind. Tires over-inflated by 50%. All these wil affect the FC.

Check yr tires got air or not? Also brakes sticking, alignment out, wrong type of EO, etc, etc, etc.

Many things can affect yr FC. Even number of regular passengers n their weight wil make a difference.

Or maybe at the factory ty put in a 1.4 engine by mistake? [sweatdrop]

Cannot say ALL Korean cars leh.

Mine is Optra Estate(Daewoo Lacetti) Auto. I getting abt 14km/lit. Not bad leh. [drivingcar]

probably it's the driving style or could be letting the car engine idle a lot?

Or engine/car not well maintained.

If not a contract, they cant sue. That is right. But they can sue them for misrepresentation of information. However, they need to prove that it is beyond reasonable doubt that the information is misrepresented. If not, how to fight? Then again, all these need technical expertise to prove, not any commoners can do it.

Prob is that by the time prove beyond reasonable doubt against these cartels.....the cost already approaching / exceed omv of vehicle.

i realise a lot of factor affect my FC

- petrol grade and even brand. switching from 92 to 98, then 95...does not help and my drop can be from 10km/l to 7km/l (98 to 92)..for a few days then will slowly creap back up.

- tyre pressure. For me the difference is how i drive the car with a overinflated tyre vs a 'normal' inflated tyre. The normal inflated tyre feels more "secured" so i will tend to accelerate more thus drinking more petrol. The overinflated tyres feels more floaty so i will drive more carefully.

- driving at night or day (+ traffic). If you drive a lot during off peak and at night, the FC is very good (travelling at high speeds on the final gear and very little stop and start...plus at night the car is more responsive, ppl say due to cool air and temp. The air intake temp difference and be more than 10 degrees.

- Tyres...YES tyres (new and type) can affect FC by a LOT!!!. My old Altis improved almost 20% switching from Yoko DB to XM2 (from 340 to over 400 per tank).

The tyres IMO is the bigger factor for FC which we can easily change. Driving habit is very hard to change and the other factors does not make a big difference.

U.S. Fines Hyundai, Kia for Fuel Claims

Penalty of $300 Million Is Largest Ever, Could Set Pricey Precedent for Other Auto Makers

By
JOSEPH B. WHITE

South Korean auto makers Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp. agreed to pay a combined penalty of $300 million for overstating fuel-economy claims, the largest such punishment ever, in a settlement that could create a pricey precedent for other car companies.

can understand lah, as a new automobil maker, wants to get a slice of the cake, overstating is normal,

30 years ago Japanese used the same style :D

Now Japan becomes automobil superpower country, no need to use this tricks liao, ppls still recognize sushi over kimchi [:p]
