All 16,600 ComfortDelGro taxis will be installed with in-vehicle cameras over the next three months from next Monday, as an added safety and security measure, said the public transport operator on Friday. The J002B cameras, positioned behind the rear view mirror, will be fixed in such a way that they can only record what happens outside the taxi. They cannot be adjusted to face inward, so passengers' privacy will not be compromised, said ComfortDelGro in a statement on Friday. The device is programmed to start recording once the engine is turned on and will do so continuously for up to four hours. Its sensor is also able to activate one-minute video recordings once it detects sudden shocks to the taxi. Equipped with a 140 deg focus lens and a 2.7-inch LCD screen, the cameras retail for $388 each but will be installed for free in the taxis. The cameras were first tested out in June this year and cabbies have given positive feedback about the cameras. Mcf777 Turbocharged December 13, 2013 Share December 13, 2013 (edited) they should get a camera with higher storage and link directly to the Taxi company. In this way, most of the cabs will kwai kwai drive carefully. i bet that during accident (taxi fault), they will quickly remove the card (evidence) and put all blame on the other vehicle. They will probably keep a spoilt SD card in the cab. If accidents caused by them, they will remove and put in the faulty ones to say cam spoilt

Volvobrick Supersonic December 13, 2013 Share December 13, 2013 Who is the person tasked to buy the camera? Comfort better not be paying $388 for something that actually retails at only USD40-50 each BEFORE bulk discount! Does not seem to have Wide Dynamic Range too.Anyway, the video quality seems quite crappy, compared to current crop of better DVRs on Ambarella or Novatek 96650 chipsets. I bought a Blackview BL580 for about $100 from foxoffer.com and can confirm the night recordings are excellent.

Lurpsexx 6th Gear December 13, 2013 Share December 13, 2013 Should be passed onto the hirer Yes.. as usual.. stealthly increase rental due to "increasing operating costs".... Someone's gotta pay for anyting, and its definitely not going to be the taxi co... only the hirer and customers get the shaft all the time.. while the taxi co gain all the good reviews.. Like a bro said, these car cams are crap and I used them before... not even 1080P quality and night vision is crap... plus the $388 is ownself declare one... alibaba selling same model for $45-50 for MOQ 500pcs... talk abt blowing big big.. Even SBS buses has camera inside and recording what the passengers are doing inside the cabin.... you sure you want it to record what you do with xmm in the back seat? They should install for the red color taxi scrap the red taxis..... use them for live rehearsal as burning objects for anti-riot squads... if those cmi red taxi drivers are out of job, so be it lor.... good ones can join other taxi companies Edited December 14, 2013 by Maseratigood

What is few hundred bucks compared to 100k.
