Soak it in, Mustang fans. Dwell on the pictures. Linger a bit, and maybe hit up the internets to watch that chase video all over again.

I mean, one of the original 1968 Mustang GT fastbacks from the movie “Bullitt” rolled out on the stage at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, accompanied by a new 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hollywood’s landmark car chase scene.

That’s sweet.

True, it may not be accurate to say these types of events rarely happen anymore. After all, Ford has gone to the Bullitt well twice before.

But here’s the thing: Who cares?

This year, and this particular auto show, desperately needs a little Detroit muscle. There are only so many truck and SUV and compact car debuts one can stomach, not to mention “concept studies” and fringe-brand toy-car unveilings.

Detroit used to be a show where automakers came to pay homage to the global capital of motorcars. After all, it’s not known as the Motor City for nothing. Now, it’s an auto show bereft of excitement. It’s boring and clinical. Dull.

With the new Mustang Bullitt’s debut, Detroit redeems itself.

This machine – this beautiful green machine – is worth getting worked up over, and worthy of serving as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of a movie that ultimately brought us a Fast and Furious festival of automotive carnage.

So drink it in. This special-edition Mustang Bullitt will give us all something to talk about.

There’s lots to say about this car’s debut in Detroit. Like how Molly McQueen, on hand to introduce the car and honor her grandfather, had never driven a manual transmission before coming to take part in the festivities. Or how Ford managed to sneak a green Volkswagen Beetle into the debut film. Or how they found one of the two original 1968 Mustang GT fastbacks used for the movie, and brought the car out onto the stage with the new 2019 Mustang Bullitt. (The other “Bullitt” movie car was found in Baja California in 2017.)

Most of all, we should talk about how Ford arguably won the “Best in Show” award for the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, thanks to a fond 50-year-old memory, a dose of extra horsepower, and a sweet-sounding exhaust note.

Well-equipped with Mustang GT upgrades, but no badges or stripes

Well, make that more than a dose of horsepower. Ford says that the 2019 Mustang Bullitt features a retuned 5.0-liter V8 engine, making “at least” 475 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. For those keeping score, that measures at least 15 ponies more than the standard GT.

The extra power comes courtesy of a new open air induction system, along with the Shelby GT350’s intake manifold with 87mm throttle bodies and powertrain control module calibration for optimal performance.

The special-edition Bullitt has a manual transmission topped with a white cue ball shift knob in honor of the original. If you can’t shift your own gears, you can’t drive this car. Also in the spirit of the original, Ford worked to create the right kind of burble from the car’s standard active valve performance exhaust system with blackened exhaust tips.

Standard equipment also includes the GT Performance Package, which installs upgraded suspension, steering, and braking components, summer performance tires, and a Torsen limited-slip rear differential.

Stylistically, the Bullitt Mustang maintains the original’s cool and understated persona. You won’t find stripes, spoilers or extraneous badges on this car. In fact, only the circular fake gas cap with the Bullitt logo is present, center in the rear panel between the taillights.

The tribute approach continues with classic Dark Highland Green paint, but if you don’t like that you can get one in Shadow Black. Other features include subtle chrome accents around the grille and front windows, classic “torque thrust-style” 19-inch aluminum wheels, and a black front grille.

Classic throwback on the outside, thoroughly modern on the inside

Inside, the 2019 Mustang Bullitt gets GT Premium Package content, and a handful of model-specific upgrades aside from the classic cue-ball shifter.

Standard equipment includes a heated leather steering wheel and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster with a unique Bullitt welcome screen in green. Standard leather upholstery features unique green accent stitching, and it carries over to the dashboard, door panels, and center console.

Three factory-installed options are available. They include Recaro performance seats, a MagneRide adaptive damping suspension, and the Bullitt Electronics Package including navigation, an upgraded sound system, blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, and memory for the driver’s seat and mirror settings.

2019 Mustang Bullitt due to hit dealerships this summer

The first time Ford paid tribute to the Bullitt Mustang was in 2001, when they took a GT and improved the power and handling. They did it again in 2008 and in 2009, reviving that sweet connection between an iconic movie star and an iconic car. Fact is, whomever it was at Ford who decided to provide two dark-green 1968 Mustang GT fastbacks to the movie producers ought to get a check.

These cars, that movie chase, and the characters around it are worth remembering. And there’s no such thing as the wrong time to celebrate a car like the original 1968 Mustang Bullitt.

The 2019 Ford Mustang GT Bullitt is due in showroom this summer. Pricing will be announced closer to that time, as will the number of models produced.

Ford’s Mustang-inspired electric SUV coupe teased ahead of debut

Ford has unveiled a design sketch for its new electric car.

The carmaker has released the first picture of the vehicle which has been designed as aMustang-inspired SUV vehicle.

It follows a trailer that was released earlier this year which showed the inspiration for the new vehicle.

In the trailer, the two cars that enter the factory are the Ford Explorer and the New Mustang, alluding that the new car is a combination of the two vehicles.

Ford has described as a ‘Mustang-inspired performance utility’

“Here’s a glimpse of our first global all-electric #Mustang-inspired performance utility…. available in 2020 #EV #Electric #BEV”

The picture doesn’t reveal too much about the carfromand you’d be forgiven if you believed that it was just the silhouette of a new Mustang.

It has the classic Mustang rear light design and general shape of the car which suggests that the new vehicle will boors heavily from it.

In addition to this, the carmaker will be utilising the performance of the Mustang, which means the EV should be nippy and quick.

Nothing has yet been confirmed about the car’s specs but the crossover is expected to have a range of around 300 miles on a single charge.

It is also targeted for a launch in 2020.

Initially, the vehicle was being referred to as Mach-1, which derived from a Mustang that shared the same name.

However, the carmaker is expected to drop the name after it provoked a heated response from die-hard Mustang fans.

This vehicle is derived from the company’s ‘Team Edison’ which is overseeing electric car production.

Last year the company declared its intention to go ‘all-in’ on EVs.

“We’ve been tasked to move fast and come together quickly to solve common problems — what we like to call “cross-functional sprints,” and we’ve embraced a “no stripes mentality” to encourage that ideas come from different viewpoints,” said Darren Palmer, Ford Team Edison Global Product Development Director.

of course! Especially if for free!

Dear spammer, normally I would just report you, but it seems you may have inadvertently stumbled onto something borderline clever here.

The car model is named for a feral horse. Since the muse roams free, so should the cars, right? They should remain unfettered, free of the humbling shackles and chafing yokes of ownership. Free for us to take for joyrides whenever we see one unattended and the fancy should seize us.

So, kudos on a (probably accidental) witty remark.

That having been said... Oi, @RadX. :D
