Zvicki Neutral Newbie November 28, 2013 Share November 28, 2013 Today, went to for a regular maintenance. Mechanic engineer told me that my Radiator A/C motor doesn't work, while the Radiator Fan motor is still working. He suggest me to change both because he foresee the other one may fail soon as well. Any suggestion here? For brake pad and brake disk rotor, Is it recommended to change at the same time? I changed the pad, but not the rotor today. ↡ Advertisement

Is this a ws u just pick from some ad u saw or ty put a flyer on yr windscreen? What is a Radiator A/C motor? Why he ask u to change the other Radiator Fan motor when its still ok? Change brake pad is fine. Why the mech ask u to change the rotor? What car u driving? Seems like this mech is not a very honest type.

Watwheels Supersonic November 29, 2013 Share November 29, 2013 (edited) I'm guessing it's the aircon fan motor that failed. Some cars have independent aircon system(a separate cooling fan & cooling coil which looks like a smaller radiator) that does not share fan with the main radiator. That is not a big issue since TS did not comprain about the aircon not cold. The main radiator fan will still be able to cool the aircon cooling coil in some way. My car had a similar independent system and I also didn't realised that my aircon fan had failed back dan. If the mechanic says that the main radiator fan is going fail probably he saw the fan motor carbon brushes are wearing thin. He has to disassemble the fan to see the pair of carbon brush. If he just see w/o doing anything and tell you to change, tell him to FO. In most cases the fan is pretty durable it's just that the carbon brush in the electric motor wear off. The carbon brush are pretty cheap to buy but it's labour intensive to dismantle the motor to replace the brushes. For the mechanic it's easier for them to replace the fan dan replace the carbon brush. Edited November 29, 2013 by Watwheels

Seems like this mech is not a very honest type. It is the one I picked from windscreen. Pretty big workshop. the mech's opinion is that radiator fan A/C fan probably will die together after 4-5 years . I bought a 2nd car, so don't know when they changed last time the same argument for brake pad and rotor . He told me the rotor is actually ok to work now I am driving Stream, 6 years old. He said if I don't drive long distance to north, the motor shall be fine. His argument is that the two fans normally changed at the same time and may fail also at the same time. and since I bought 2nd car and don't know the history of the car, so he suggest to change. I strongly suggest u go to another reliable ws to get a 2nd opinion. Seems like that ws mech is giving u a lot of BS reports with your service. Thats the problem with going to unknown ws. Ty know u dun hv yr own ws so unlikely to get a 2nd opinion. I feel very strange how the mech is handling yr car. Better get a recommended ws n try them out. I know it is working now because(1) I can hear the sound and (2) I saw it is spinning when I open the hood . this is quite funny. BTW, when open the hood, I found two fans, one is at the driver side, one is at the passenger side. I bet the one at the passenger side is for A/C, right? The one at the driver side is for the engine cooling, right? it doesn't spin when the car is idle, right?

Now u see the fan is off then u just switch on the AC n see if the fan is on. But if the fan was not working n now its working, cud b intterment fault n it wil spoil again on n off. Still like that u better get it fixed cos its not reliable n can spoil anytime. Better got Ah Huat at Markcool to check it for u.

I will send it to check again to how to handle (maybe add some lubricant can work, i hope :)_

Some fans got 2 speeds n wil spin slow or fast depending on the temp. ↡ Advertisement
